I have my dry tent dialed in the same way it's always been. It's about 65° Fahrenheit and 60 RH. I have a cheap $10 fan set on low not blowing directly on any buds and another similar fan. Exhausting the air on low. I have an automatic humidifier set to 60 it's always around 57 or above and the temperature is always around 65 but my last two dries both buds around day five were dry enough to be put in growth bags. In fact, one is reading 54% because I accidentally put it in a paper bag overnight for too long, thinking five days definitely can't be enough . I even use a wood moisture meter to check. Both strains were different one is Dosie Dough, and has tight buds, kind of small, and the other is red kush and has bigger, fluffier buds. I can't seem to pinpoint what is making them dry so fast other than maybe these plants hung a little bit lower down in the tent where there's more air moving around. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Not sure if I should up my humidifier to 70 thinking it won't ever reach that in there anyways
Also next two plants hanging doing the same thing it's about day 6 and they are feeling ready tonight or tomorrow to bag for sure already have one in paper bags.
Density of the buds affects drying times. Lighter airier buds will dry much faster than big dense buds.
Too much air movement. Take a fan out and just leave the exhaust fan along with upping the humidity to 62%.
Some do, some don't. I don't due to the extended drying time leaving the sugar leaves on, helps attain the 7 day dry time that I shoot for.
Is 7 days adequate for not having a weird grassy taste permanently in the bud? Or is that from not properly curing or a little of both?
this is more about burping during the cure. I crack the tote/masons for about an hour every one/two days. I should go do that now actually...
I just got home from a maintenance call and my tote a few hours later is 71% RH ...I have it open with the top laying across so the sides are open....good enough? I need instructions from here do I need to take the whole top off or can I lay cross cross on top
1 more question.....if my hygrometer in grove bag reads 54% assuming its correct ...but then I kind of agitate the buds and it goes up to 55.....is this still curing or is it done...does it have to be 55 sitting or agitate the buds with bag sealed and goes to 55
I take it off completely. I don't check my humidity like that. You know though, I was seeing that @droski456 cures for 13 days at 60°F and 60% RH. I gauge weed by just touching it. ok, I normally harvest and leave them on the stem. I like to remove the larger spoilers, but this time I wasn't fussy. A couple days later from hanging (on wine rack) they were just to dry (from touch) crispy... no. So I clipped off the buds from the stems. I had to since the stalks wouldn't fit in the tote properly, and whatever, just burp em. I did trim but again not overtly picky at this stage. I seal it for a day, next day open, gently stir them around and let them aerate and let the cover off for an hour, even two if you like. Cover again for a day. Repeat. Over time you can start picking at it, clip it clean and pop it in a mason with a moisture pack. I like 55% but had to settle for 62% this last time around. I will keep burping over the next few days, at first each day, but then each other day, and then I don't need to.
Look into those Boveda packs for your jars man. I know some ppl don't like them. But I love them bro. They make different ones a 58% and they make a 62% for sure. They make them all different sizes too. They got some packs that do whole pounds. Which is what I use man. But I just let my room sit at around 60% give or take alittle bit. And I get it down to around 60F. Doing this will take it a bit longer to dry tho. I have dried it much faster over the years. And still got pretty good results too. So my way isn't the end all be all way. But I like it pretty good. It takes about 14-16 days to get the bud just right. Then I trim it and put it into jars. I'm not really hardcore on my Humidity or Temp tho either. Just as long as it is around that range. Then I just trim it and put my shit in the big gallon jars with those Boveda packs in the jar with it. If you use those packs. You won't have to even burp anymore bro. Also I leave my exhaust running 24/7. And I do have a fan barely running. But not pointing at my hanging plants . Just kinda circulating air. I mainly only run it for the first few days. Then I just turn it off. And let my exhaust exchange the Air.
I thought the packs were for after curing not during. So much info out there. I have some actually just not in use
