drying fresh bud... please help

    okay so heres the story:
    my buddy grew one plant agreeing to sell me one ounce, the plant was small, it had maybe a couple ounces on it, so we took the plant upstairs and the very small leaves left on the buds were light yellow/brown from flushing, but underneath was sticky chrystally buds, we took branches off and manicured it right away, i cut up 31 grams, and bought it for 140 cnd, its really good looking bud, but i dont have a camera, sorry lol
    so i bagged it up, and took it home, immediatly placing it in a jar over night, the next day(today) i seen mist on the sides of the jar, so i took the buds out and they are now on a high times magazine in my drawer.
    should i put them back in the jar, or let them dry in the drawer, or how should i dry it???
    i have no experience in this feild so help is appreciated.
    and how much will 31 grams weigh after it is dried? the nugs are really compact as it is... must have been an indica:confused:

    please help me man

    i dont get it ...the buds were not dry ...you are putting fresh buds in a jar ???

    if you would have left the fresh buds in a jar for a few more days ...you would of had 100 % mold buds :eek: ....which then would go into the garbage

    these forums always seem to amaze me ...just when i think i have heard everything :confused:

    Dont dry in the sun, it will ruin the weed. Hang upside down in a cool, dark, dry place. Don`t give in to the urge to smoke too soon. Use somewhere like a celler or garage, where it is cooler at night than day time. The plant will still think it is alive for a couple of days and use up some of the chlorophyll. That will produce a nicer smoke. When the stem snaps nice - it is time to start smoking!!! Can you wait a bit longer? Let it cure for 2 more weeks like a bit of spanish ham. You can just use a tupperware box.

    we cut them right off the tree
    yeah i didnt think that putting them in a jar was right,
    but you still didnt help me man
    are they okayin the drawer now?

    BUDS, the buds arent on stems man...
    theyre in nug form,
    they just grew really tight

    sorry man just put them in a cool, dark, dry place on some paper like newspaper, I had same prob they had no stems but I just used string to hang them worked fine for me.

    Put them in a brown paper bag for 5-7 days then put them in the jar. you'll probably have around 10-15 grams all depending on how dry they were when you weighted them.

    You are confusing drying with curing. First you have to dry the buds, for which you should either hang upside down or put loosely in paper bags or newspaper, in a cool to room temp place with good air ventilation. The buds will be dry in anywhere from 5-14 days.

    After drying you have to cure for taste, which involves putting the buds loosely in mason jars sealed airtight except to be opened for 15 minutes or so per day to let the moisture vent out and some fresh air in. The longer you cure the better the taste but at a minimum of one week, 3-4 is better.

    You can pinch throughout this process for smoke, it may not taste as good as the final product will but the potency will all be there.

    This post was quite helpful for me, but my question now is when you do stop drying and start curing? And when do you stop curing and start smoking?

    Thanks another question... What should you when the bud has been stopped drying too soon. And it has already broken up into smaller nuggets, so it can no longer be hanged? For example I was gave some weed from a friend that grew it, and right now that the stem is not near crunching, and my friend that grew it already stop drying it and broke it down. What should I do?

    To get it more dry, you hang it. To get it more moist you put it in a jar to draw moisture out of the stem. You need to find a middle ground. Sounds like you came close to 150 dollar bag of mold .

    either string them up like you would cranberry/popcorn on your xmas tree, or put em in a paper bag. either way works good. the paper bag method is probly quicker and imo it "jumpstarts" the curing process.

    about how long in the brown bag, before I move it a jar? Should I leave it in the brow paper bag until the steam is crunchy? Thank so much man, this really get me excited to start growing.

    ya man till the stems are crunchy not bendable.. the buds should be pretty crispy aswell.. then you throw em in the jar to cure , and as others have mentioned it draws the last remaing moisture out of the stems
