drying & curing

  1. First of all, I have been to many forums & bought 2 books so PLEASE don't tell me to go read before asking the question.

When I harvest, I hang the plants upside down (limbs) In a cupboard, covered to keep light out. It's a freestanding thing & I have holes drilled in the top & a cutout for a fan on the side. My house stays at around 80 (I have no control over that & can't buy anything to change that). Anyway, I'm using the brown bag method. I hang them until the tips are a little crisp then move then to the paper bag. After a day. the buds are close to being dried so I move them to an airtight jar. The smell almost makes me sick to my stomache (sweet smell)

They are dryng WAY too fast. Any advise? Will the ones in the jar cure & gain the desireable taste & smell? I'm pretty sure the fridge or freezer will dry them out even faster. I need to slow this down!
Thanks in advance for any help.

  2. If you are using the fan then you may want to try running it less time. Just turn it on for a minute every now and then to let the air circulate a bit. I usually hang them until the stems will snap instead of bend. The buds seem like crispy critters at this point but when you jar them up all the moisture deeper inside starts to come out and they will moisten right up. I have pretty warm temps and very low humidity where I'm drying but it still takes about 4 days to get to the stem breaking point. After you put them in the jars if they don't moisten back up in a couple of days you can try putting 2 or 3 drops of water on the lid of your jar and seal it up. A little water goes a long way so be careful as you don't want any mold.

Anyway, I'd say your stuff will cure out fine in jars.

  3. so i am told .....after hangin ur buds for a week. put them in a plastic air tight bag and put em in da freezer for a day or so ... i hear it makes em good

  4. Agree with cutting back on the fan. If they are still ultra-dry when you put them in jars you could put a piece of orange peel in each jar to give them back some moisture. Just check the orange peel and change it frequently because it can introduce mold. On the plus side you just might infuse a hint of orange flavor to you bud.
