Drug Tests for Welfare Recipients?

1. Didn't write this, came via email, not even sure how I feel about it but it makes ya think.

Like a lot of folks in this state, I have a job. I work, they pay me. I
pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as they see fit.

In order to get that paycheck I am required to pass a random urine
test, which I have no problem with.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people
who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine
test to get a welfare check, because I have to pass one to earn it for them?

Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on
their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping
someone sit on their butt and take drugs and/or buy drugs with our tax money.

Could you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to
pass a urine test to get a public assistance check.

If it's been posted before, sorry.

2. ODB rode up in a limo to pick up his welfare check

3. i'll never forget that. ODB rollin up in a limo to grab his welfare check. ridiculous.

I think I might like the piss-for-welfare system, but seriously doubt its effectiveness. If ODB, a pretty famous dude, can still remain in the welfare system, it's obviously not running smoothly. Now let's make an already dysfunctional system even bigger. sounds like a big waste of money. But it's a nice idea, i think. I can barely afford to buy my own drugs, much less yours.

4. i think they should have to pass regular urine tests.

usually i'm against drug testing, even for some jobs, but we don't need government money paying for people's drugs, plain and simple.

5. I actually agree. I am 100% for giving out the money to deserving receipiants, but when someone is going to walk out and by drugs, something needs to be done.

6. Ill do this idea one better and say stop giving out welfare period. If people need food then give them food. If they need housing write their landlord a check. If they need healthcare then pay their hospital bills. Giving poor people money is not a good idea. A large percentage of them dont know how to manage money, that hows they ended up poor.

Im not for giving away my tax dollars to fund drug addicts. I am for giving people the basic goods that all people deserve.

Id like to think that most people who get welfare spend it properly but I really have no idea. My family got food stamps when I was in elementary school because my dad broke his back and couldnt work for years. I know that aid is important. I also know that a lot of the people on welfare are able-bodied but lazy. Im conflicted about what to do with any sort of public aid program.

7. That's exactly how I feel dude
