Dresser stealth cab

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Bryce61, Jan 24, 2010.

  1. I recently came across a 5 drawer dresser and plan to convert it to a new purpose! Like most of us, complete stealth is a very big must. Electricity is also a biggie so I plan on going as light as possible for a 4 or 5 plant grow.
Please advise me on the following ideas, as I'm hearing alot of different things and just want to throw my plans out there for critique.
The dresser will be made into 2 areas, the larger will hold a Emily's Garden 6 plant passive hydro system and I want to use a Tri spectrum UFO LED light @ 100watts for this area for the main grow area. The smaller side I plan to use CFL lighting for a Mother and clones.
Odor control and air flow will probably be a couple computer fans and a inline with carbon filter.
All help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated at this point. I'd hate to start off in the wrong direction and have to back track! I know there are tons of ways to do things and everybody has a favorite way to grow. I hope I can take alittle bit of alot of good ideas and become a better grower!

  2. Also, I'm not sure what would be my best access to the grow box to best control light and odor leaks. I wanted to hinge the front side after framing out the false drawers, but Im not sure of the best way to control any light leaks. If I make the front solid, it will be easier to seal, but I would have to move it away from the wall each time I need to garden. Any ideas? I stay awake at night thinking of all this shit, and dont want to talk about my thoughts to any of my friends or associates, for obvious reasons. No one but myself will know about this grow, and I plan to keep it that way! Thanx bros!

Hopefully Bryce you won't find my post shit this time!
You would want to use a silicon sealant to control the light leaks. If you are painting the inside you can find a paint sealant that should control the light leaks. The carbon filter would typically be ran on the back side so that it up against the wall. This is usually done by drilling a hole on the back top part of a cab and running the carbon filter down the back. To keep the sound down on the fans you can use foam to prevent the fans from vibrating. A quick and easy way to separate the grow area is to use panda film. I think your best bet would be to use the false drawers on the front of the cabinet for access. If you Google hidden doors or false panels you can find some pretty creative tricks.

If this is your first grow and you don't own the hydro system I would suggest looking into soil,it will be much easier to maintain.

I found this in my notes and thought you would find it interesting. http://hailmaryjane.com/build-a-stealth-grow-box-for-less-than-150/

I would personally re-think the lighting system, 100 watt ufo LED is not going to be enough power to grow 5 plants IMO. This is based off of studying grow journals with LED'S. I would personally run CFL's in the cab for the main grow. I would also scale back on the number of plants to 3. This is just a personal choice, with out the dimensions of the cab it's hard to tell. I hoped that I help.

  4. Thanks friend. I've already purchased the lights and its only a 90 watt ufo. Still up in the air as far as a fan/odor control goes but Im thinking about computer type fans on both sides and a can type filter for the exhaust. Maybe a can of ona also to help. I found a flourescent light system (2 foot) grow lights that may work well for mom and clones. U think the UFO isnt enough? What should I add to it? Ill use bag shit for the first try, so it wont be a major loss if I fuk up, but I'd rather not! Thanks again for the input. Keep it comming! I can use all the help I can get.

  5. Hatch,
You mentioned that the filter should be down the back. Inside or out? I believe I need to have mine completely stealth. Is that a problem, running everything inside?
I want to leave about 7 inches or so above my cab as a wireing/air duct area. Meaning I will put a shelf or "top" of my main grow area about 7 inches above the cab. in that area I can vent, wire and run air lines without any concern. What do you think? Thanx

  6. fyi i have one of those UFO LEDs and if stealth is a big issue, the light is kind of noisy with 3 24 volt cp fans in it.. im just sharing what i know>>> may the gods of grow be with you...

  7. Well if you already have the UFO, I would love to see a journal with it alone. I would add some cfl if it was going south.
You can run the carbon filter on the inside. It will be your main exaust vent. You can run it from the top with a 4 inch inline with elbow and run the exaust out on the bottom.
I think if u don't own CPU fan on eBay this dude sells 4inch inlines with ac cord for 20 bucks you will need that for carbon filter. What's the measurments on the cab?

Here is the best advice I can give you if this is your first build. On the net there is a guy named hatch, the dude is an architect. You will have to search for him on google try something like hatch grow design. Ask him for help and he will give you blueprints customer made for u.

  8. well first off Mr hater, i dont have a journal , i only had the light a week and a half. and i wasnt talking about how they would grow under just the ufo cause im only trying to start one plant, not 5. and even with my cab closed, you can still hear the three fans inside. so stop haten, learn to let other ppl give advice you piece of shit. go eat my nutzzz

  9. and if u must know dushbiggalow, this is how far iv come before i hit problems of my own.

    Peanut
calm down. You took my statement has me being a smart ass when I was not. I spent a lot of time researching led"s. I would like to see a grow journal done by you or anyone that used a 90 or 100 watt UFO light. It would be interesting for me and others to know if you can get good results. If so that would help micro growers and cfl growers to go with a better light source, since led runs cooler then cfl. Also it's pretty cheap and simple to sound proof a room,I did it with my wifes recording studio, if u want help let me know. I'm in my 30"s man, I don't come here to "hate" on any one. I have done research and have grown, done stealth and no grows hydropontics and soil and now organics. I was just trying to help, I didn't mean to offend you and I won't post anymore in your thread. Again I apologize you took my comments the wrong way.

  11. it was taken the wrong way but i see how you ment it now. my bad for over reacting. i myself was expecting the ufo to be quieter then it is, thats all i was gettin at. i would love to do a full led journal but as you can see, i can even get through week two with out my leaves curling and bein yellow. good thing i only started one. and please, feel free to post on anything , i seek the knowledge , so i can use it and pass it on myself. offence no longer taken. if i can save that little plant, ill start a journal, i just hope the resurection process works.

  12. Thanks for the link. That is almost exactly what I will be building. The lighting will be the main difference. If I have the noise problems that peanut had, I will have to rethink the lights.
