drawing studio assignment

  1. hey guys, im a freshman in college. new to the whole concept

i have to come up with 50 drawings in 3 days for my drawing studio class. class just started today. and if i cant do it all, i have to explain why. i think my professor is a real hard ass. he tried to intimidate just about everyone in the room as soon as we got there but was pretty tolerant when i showed up late (i couldn't find a parking spot for shit)

has anyone taken a class like this, or anything similar? any advice? anything? this shit's gonna be a real problem because i have work and a million other assignments to complete already. not sure why he's expecting anyone to have 50 drawings done in such a short period of time

i think i'm going to do as many as i can of good quality. that would be my excuse for not having them done, because im occupied with a bunch of other assignments and work, and it takes me a while to complete drawings of great quality

  2. I would go ahead and try and do all fifty. In my experience with hard professors, if you do the work, you won't have any problems. I've had teachers that didn't give one test the whole semester, and then some who give one every class. If you can't do all of the work, send him an email or talk to him in class. Most teachers just like to see effort from their students.

  3. thats pretty good advice actually thanks. but i dont know how im going to possibly find the time to do 50

  4. Like BeatsandGrass said, just try and do all fifty.

What do you have to draw if you don't mind me asking? And what about quality? Do they have to be perfect or does he just want 50 crudely drawn pictures.

  5. You could do some small drawings, just kinda play around with it. Something out of the ordinary , you know?

  6. Yes we need specifics about the assignment. I go to art college right now and I can tell you most assignments from any given class averaged about 6 hours a week.

  7. the thing is i only had him for one class of about 30 minutes (got dismissed early) and he wasn't specific about it at all. he just told us to make use of whatever we felt like

and it turns out from what a couple other classmates said it has to be done in the time period of one hour. everything he said to us was vague as fuck. he didnt explain specifics or a purpose. he just said if we couldnt do it in an hour to explain why we couldnt...

so im quite unsure about what to do and what he wants

that's why im here to ask if any of you blades might be able to take a guess and give me some advice :)

  8. Honestly I think you are over thinking it. Just let go with whatever you have, be it ink, brush and paint, marker, pen, etc.....

My first quarter in art college, the teacher made us bring in some Higgins black india drawing ink, random twigs, cotton swabs, leaves, whatever we wanted and instructed us to loosen our wrists and elbows and let go. We then framed a corner we liked. Just an idea.

50 drawings in sixty minutes huh? Set up an egg timer for 1 minute and draw something in your room and attempt to finish it in one minute. If you don't finish stop drawing it and move on to the next thing.

    Just an idea.

I think he is trying to test you guys by being very unspecific. He wants to see if you can do it with little to no help. He didn't give you a direction to go in so pick your own direction. You obviously have drawn before or you wouldn't be in the class. Start by drawing what you love to draw and go from there. Just another idea.

  10. yes i agree with that. i think i'm going to do a couple quality pieces rather than hurting my fingers and stressing myself out. cause it's practically impossible to do 50 within 60 minutes unless they look like total shit. really not planning on wasting computer paper either (what he said would be acceptable)

  11. It's clearly a "feeler" assignment. He just wants to get a feel for the skill level of the class, and he wants you to get a feel for drawing, and to get a feel for turning things in whether you think they are "done" or not. If every art class let every student keep everything until it was "done," there would never be anything turned in.

  12. hmm good advice guys! but what should i draw? ;)

  13. here's what i came up with. i could only do three of them in an hour

monster over a bridge. little people below stoned as fuck saying oh shit be quiet!

imagination chamber, guy creates the environment around him while he's asleep

mathematician with his soul escaping from his body

my reasoning for not being able to do 50 in an hour is because i was focused on completing the concept of each drawing rather than producing a bunch of random pieces and wasting paper

  14. due tomorrow, ill tell you guys about the outcome

  15. Those are sickkkkkkkkkk

  16. thanks man. turns out he never collected the assignment because we were learning about the basics of lines and shit in class, which is pretty retarded. spent an hour drawing this shiiiiiiiit!

  17. I think he might have wanted you to just do fifty little sketches.
