Dragging exhaust

Discussion in 'Planes, Trains & Automobiles' started by EazyE420, Feb 9, 2011.

  1. hey blades, my car recently decided to stop properly carrying the exhaust pipe from the engine back to the muffler...so as of right now about a foot behind the front axle the exhaust pipe is dragging on the ground and it roars like some suped up american vintage muscle car..im just wondering if this is worth fixing or if i should finally kiss my first car goodbye...:(

  2. Just inspect it and see if any welds are broken. If they are just take it to a muffler shop and have them reweld it on. If the welds didn't break see if you can just reattach it yourself. Don't get rid of a car because the exhaust pipe came loose..

  3. just leave it like that??
    better air flow right??

man i would love to have a good ol American muscle:) been really interested in them lately.
old school challengers, ford galaxies, coronets. they r so badass

  4. how much would a rewelding cost ?
and yeah i would love to have an old school challenger then id feel proud when the enginge roared...not embarrassed

  5. if a weld broke, you could try to sleeve the pipe yourself. basically what you need is a flexible square of metal and a couple hose clamps. if not, and it was only a hanger that broke, wire coat-hangers work well for reattaching the exhaust for a short time.

  6. well the actual pipe broke and so exhaust is just coming out from practically under the driver seat area...so idk if a weld or a hanger but id be willing to bet it was a weld, any idea how much this would cost?

  7. my friend took his volvo to a guy who specializes on his volvo (240) for an exhaust leak and it only cost him like $50 to have it sleeved. i don't know how expensive its gonna be, not only is the car not in front of me but i rarely pay someone else to work on my car.

  8. An exhaust shop would probably charge anywhere from $50-$150 to fix it. Definitely not something to scrap the car over.

  9. dude if it just dragging take a metal coat hanger and tie it back up with that.

  10. Hahaha

Our shop would charge $20 to fix it, if weld are broken.
If it's just draggin, go to autozone, buy a $4 hanger, and reattatch it.

  11. ok well, now a huge fuckin pipe fell off... so idk wtf is goin on...but at least its not dragging anything anymore...

  12. Sounds like you just lost some of your exhaust piping. Take it to a muffler shop asap, if you wait too long you could cause more damage to your exhaust system. Save yourself the headache of replacing the whole exhaust because you neglected to do anything about it.

  13. Keep it like that and drive around bugging people with your super loud exhaust:D

  14. Look under it. Is it before or after the cat?

  15. would've probably been easier (cheaper, too) to fix before it dropped, but whatever, not everyone thinks like i do.

i typically observe this sort of behavior (the "run it into the ground" mentality) coming from women...

  16. hahah i know but see im a delivery driver so i had to keep driving it..and couldnt get it to the shop till this mornin

  17. UGh so i just got the dreaded calll today that im going to have to drop 600 fuckiung dollars to fix the exhaust system because im missing an O2 sensor and some other bullshit thing that does somthing that i dont understand this is really fuckin lame but i guess i have to do it to keep the fuckin car running

  18. lol you could fix that so easily or cheaply.

  19. you might be able to, but the OP obviously can't because he didn't try to prevent it, and took it to a mechanic.

  20. Sounds like your O2 sensor and cat got ripped off to me. It would probably be cheaper to just have the exhaust redone custom than trying to use stock parts. You can buy a new high-flow cat on ebay for like $80 and O2 sensors are like $40.
