Downsides to getting a card? Does your info get passed somewhere?

Discussion in 'Medical Cannabis: Treatments & Patient Experiences' started by infjew, Jan 17, 2008.

  1. Im wondering if there are some downsides to getting a cannabis card, some of my friends say that your information goes on your insurance, or the feds, or the government or some just say you get put on a list of people in Cali with a card. I was wondering if there was any truth to any of these statements and also if there are any other - to getting a card.

    thanks.

  2. Don't worry about it! There's tons of cannabis cardholders. Better to get on the right side of state law. The feds aren't going to arrest every cardholder with the hope of getting some big drug dealer.

  3. Additionally, I don't think the the records are legally searchable. But who knows with the Patriot Act.

  4. thanks anybody know 100% for sure tho?

  5. Do you know the difference between the doctor's recommendation and a State or county ID? This "card" you speak of, do mean the doctor's recommendation?
The doctor's recommendation does not register your info with any agency.
The state or county cards are registered with the agencies.
In California, Prop. 215 and SB420 do not require you to obtain a state or county card, it is a voluntary program.
By the law, you need only the doctor's recommendation.
I, personally, do not want the government agencies to have my information. Thus, I only carry my doctor's recommendation.
At my Pot Doc's office we all agree that we will not partake in the "card" program, unless it becomes mandatory.
If you're a parole, on probation, etc. I would recommend you enroll in their card program, mainly to keep the local authorities off ur ass. Again, it's a voluntary program in California.
    Hope this is helpful.

  6. All medical records can be confiscated by federal agents, as they are the new SS.
At my office, they have taken patient records as evidence in their cases.
If you want no record of your cannabis use, then don't get any of it on paper. But then you will also not be able to use cannabis legally. I suppose.

  7. thanks for your help, So just having the reccomendation is the way to go? Also I dont really plan on using my reccomendation as a means of getting away with carrying or smoking pot (im not gunna flash my reccommendation to a cop), im just down for the access into clubs. So i guess my final question is the feds wouldnt take a whole doctos office full of records and look to be busting patients that way? they only get records when a patient is trying to get out of some marijuana charge and they want to see the legitimacy of thier recommendation?

  8. If the doctor is under investigation, they may seize some records as evidence against that doctor. If there is a problem with a patient, they may seize that patient's records.
In general, i have not heard of any patients getting harrassed if they have legitimate health conditions and are not in trouble with the law.

  9. key words are doctor under investigation...thanks.

  10. not mandatory my ass. Alot of clubs wont allow you to enter if you dont register in their database. Though i think you might be talkin about the cards you have to pay an additional fee for. I just mean the free registry ones, but when the feds raid them, they have the registry of users and i dont see how they could raid every single person..

  11. Any clubs I have been to don't require a club verification card. So, if they want to they could report my visits with the doctor's req. and driver's license that all clubs require. Some clubs are just making extra money by making you buy their card. Of course, if you really wanna go to that particular club, then i guess ya gotta buy their card.
Again, the State/county cards are not mandatory.
