I have been using Nanolux double ended HPS bulbs for the last year. Compared to a traditional setup of 2 single ended HPS bulbs per every 1 MH bulb here are my thoughts: The DE bulbs: - have a huge spread. No need to overdrive them for me. Just standard 1000w. - they produce more heat than an HPS, maybe similar to a MH - lots of light. So much light that just underneath, the quality is less even at a 4' height. - produce more weight Standard HPS bulbs - less expensive to get a setup - less weight - less heat - greater quality Standard HPS plus MH (a 2:1 ratio) - produce the best quality, but lowest yeild None of the above lights were aircooled. I prefer to cool the room, not the light (if possible). I'm curious if anybody has a different or similar experience. I would like to try a new Gavita setup with their controller, but unfortunately they don't have a MH that works with it (and Plasma is beyond budget). Also, MH is not good for dimming and overdriving, which is what the Gavita system does based on temperature and time of day. It seems to me you'd need a 1:1 ratio of DE to MH to get the right spectrum as the Gavitas are super red and have nearly double the spread of a 1000w MH.
