Dorm Room Busts?

Well, not to sound like a dick, but that's pretty fucking stupid to be doing. They will DEF. search your room and def. take all your stuff. You are living on STATE property, you have no rights. You WILL be arrested if your RA is a dick, but a cool RA will give you a warning sometimes. They know you are smoking, they just haven't said anything yet. Chances are you will not get suspended, but you will go before any student body honor or disciplinary board. Depending on your state, if you are arrested, you will lose your driver's license for a few months. You also have to figure in your prior record, such as convictions for this before. You are on STATE property, so if they really want to hammer you, they will. I had a friend who was playing soccer at a university in the south, he got nailed, lost his scholarship. He was a freshman, and the semester had just started. You could be booted from campus, and since you're living in the dorms, you WILL be kicked out asap. Not to mention you become that clown that got busted rocking the ganj in your dorm room. It's a bush league move bro, and there are many other ways to do it without being in your dorm. Depends on your RA as well, if he or she dosen't like you, that may be a one-way ticket to being arrested and your parents will DEF. be involved. If it's more than an ounce, usually the penalties are much more severe. I had a former roommate that was popped, he was a clown, and the only people that think its cool to be caught are tools. It's cool to party at school bro, and not to make this sound like a lecture, but fucking up your education like this is a high school move. Find a place on campus to smoke that is somewhat secluded, I did it when I went to school. Smoke at a friends house off campus, as the headache that is involved in getting busted is a nightmare. I got popped at a big university on the east coast for lighting off fireworks after we beat a huge rival in hoops. I was on probation for 6 months, meaning no rugby or school sponsored activities, and had to re-enroll the next semester and every one from then on as punishment. It's one thing to be a chill guy and say "why don't you come to my room for a session, and come across as cool". It's completely different when people point you out and say "that's the guy who got popped for smoking in his room". Then you are just a d-bag. Chicks can enjoy usually enjoy a little herbal refreshment from time to time, but they don't want to date a guy who is dumb enough to be caught smoking in their dorm. They are young enough to still care what everyone thinks. Enjoy school bro, take 5 or 6 years, trust me, don't rush to get out into the real world and being miserable. First off, there are ways you can smoke in your dorm room every day and not get caught. I went to uni here in ontario and smoked pretty much everyday in my dorm room. We had a fan that we put in the window that would suck the smoke right out, and all you had to do was sit on the desk by the window (which was mad chill anyways). Doing this I could blaze and my roomate wouldn't even know when he came in 5 min after (he blazes occasionally).

Now saying that I DID get caught, by being stupid and a weird set of coincidences. Me and two of my roomates decided we wanted to smoke a blunt cuz it was winter and we were cravin one. So we blazed in our bathroom with the fan on (which usually works just as good. For some reason this time it DANKED of weed outside the bathroom, it usually doesnt smell at all (even with other blunts).

When we are done we walk outside and smell it. My friend was gonna go to someone elses room, and I lent the friend my bubbler so i decided to go too. So we are sprayin air freshner as we open the door and I say to my roomate "hold up i gotta go get my bong too" RIGHT when two RAs walk by (couldn't see em cuz our doors are in little alcove things). That looked good, to blit people walkin outta a suite that danks, spraying air freshner and talkin about bongs. BOOKED.

Now, this isn't the first run in with the RAs, I had gottin in trouble before for having parties and other things (we aren't allowed to play drinking games or have a beer bong because it irresponsible drinking, which is fucked so I did both pretty much every weekend, plus I would never turn my music down on weekends) And me and my roomates were all on probation (I got put on for to running out the front door with my beer bong completely smashed while we were goin to the front desk to get it confiscated), so pretty much if we fucked up again we be out.

Now in my res every floor has 2 ra's but they patrol and have duties on different days so your usually its not your own RA booking you for things. Well it just happened that my own RA was the one of the ones there. We tryed denying it was weed but he was like "Is this really what your gonna say?" So we admitted it. He knew we would get kicked out if we got booked for anything, but he said he wouldnt tell the resident manager because we were good guys and ALWAYS participated and helped out in floor actvities and dinners and shit. Plus we would randomly some how get the floor to come with us to go taboozing or other shit, so we helped the floor bond.

So that being said, don't blaze jays or blunts in your room, only bongs. Get a fan for your window, lots of air freshner and try too get some of that spungy door weather stripping stuff that has a sticky backing to make your door airtight. Also participate in floor activities and make yourself look like you have something to give to the floor, and kicking you out would not be good for everyone. Hope this helps.

General Info:
I lived in the towers, Schneider to be exact. I lived on floor 16 which was also the craziest floor. The entire staff hated our floor because most of us would still be running around really drunk until 7 in the morning. The RA's and head RA's were always tough when they did checks on our floor and would bust any of us in a second. They knock on your door if they hear noise 2 doors down, which is bullshit because 2 people talking can create enough noise to be heard 2 doors down. They also knock if they hear cans being opened, loud music, if they smell weed etc. No one had a volcano so if we wanted to smoke we would go into the bathroom or outside on the stoop(where people smoke cigaretts outside, fun place). We would spray some air freshner outside the room, put a towell down and then go into the bathroom and turn the shower on super hot so it creates steam. Everyone would smoke and then leave the bathroom. That was the deal for first semester. Then people got daring and started smoking in their room. More people got caught that way because theres always like 4-5 people smoking with u at any given time. So more noise=more knocks on the door=busted more.

When I got caught:
So it was a friday night and my friends and I are all rushing to go out. We like to smoke a few bowls before we leave so we head up to my room. My 2 friends and I start packing bowls and go to the bathroom. My suitemate knocks on the bathroom and asks if he can come in, we say hell yeah. He also has popcorn but no microwave so he goes into my room and makes popcorn. While he opened the door I guess some of the smoke went into my room and then out the door. We smoke 2 bowls then leave the bathroom. By the time we were done smoking his popcorn burnt so my room smelled like burnt popcorn now. Right as were leaving theres a knock on my door. Its 3 RA's! Im freaking out and instantly hide all my shit. The RA's said they smelled cannabis outside my room and want to come in and look around. If you say no they call a cop and then he has the authority to go in your dresser, desk, basically whatever he wants. Well once the RA's step into my room they dont smell the weed anymore. They only smell the accidentally burnt popcorn! A cop comes up to my room anyways and said he smelled it in the hallway also. But when he got into my room he didnt smell any cannabis. So therefor, they dont have any more reasonable cause to search my room. Even though I WAS smoking 3 minutes before.


If you have a vaporizer, your gunna make friends instantly. I had one first semester and everyone would be chillin in my room using it and i would get smoked down a lot because of it. Also, EVERYONE smokes weed at SIU. You'll find some good connections in the dorms for whatever you want.

Remember, don't get caught with weed. That will invalidate any federal finacial aid and make you ineligable unless you can get it taken off of your record.

yeah if you have a vape then your most likely chill, but really think to yourself is it worth getting caught.

 

Me and my buddies smoked out one of their RAs during the last week of school, it was awesome.

Live off campus as soon as you can.

 

Not to mention, they might just go ahead and kick you out of school. Pretty sure that's different at every school (look into Drug Policies) but yeah- don't consent to searches, if you wanna give up a nug or so they are gonna ask you where the rest is no matter what. Stick to your story or you'll be be in worse trouble.

 

If you get charged with posession you lose eligibility for federal financial aid.

I wouldn't recommend smoking in your room, how hard is it to go for a walk/drive?

 

from personal experience all i can say is NEVER let the poice in your room to search. they DO NOT have the right. i repeat they DO NOT have the right to search without ur consent. i too once thought that the police on my campus (VCU police) could come in cuz i was on the school property, but they cant. your dorm room is like an apt. cuz your paying to live there in a sense. i know some ppl are gonna try to tell me that the police have that right, but they dont, unless they see you smokin already, if they ask to search say no. thats the reason they ask to search, because they dont have the right to unless you consent. I was told by a high official at my school that i was mishandled twice by the police in both situations i was caught in my dorm. the first was because the police threated that if i didnt let him search he was gonna call in the k9, which they could do (i think??) but i was told they cannot and wouldnt. btw how did u get caught if u were vapin? isnt it spose to not smell? or at least not nearly as bad?

 

yes they do in dorms. its private property that belongs to the school, they can search your ass whenever they want to

 

no they dont. ive been thru it 2 times in dorms. thats why they ALWAYS make sure to ask you before they make the search. like i said i use to think the same way as you but i now know how the whole shit works. its fucked up cuz if you say no or ask is that an option they will say shit to try to make you say yes.

 

Not true at all for public schools bro.
If you go to a state university or a public university, they can't search your ass for shit if you express that you don't give consent.

you need to get a glade plug in and turn it all the way up when you smoke and cover the bottom of your door with a towel i swear it gets rid of all that weed smell but just to make sure afterwards open a window, but i never had to do that

 

hes right man, but when i did it my room was a straight up vacuum. we had the air goin in the room, the fan was in one window and the blinds were down in the other window and we could see that one of the binds was gettin pushed back towards our room. we took all precautions.... except to sploof it. we were on the 4th floor smokin a blunt and the cops smelled it from outside the dorm. mind you all the forth floor was the highest level of the dorm and we were also upstairs in the dorm. that dosnt sound high but if you saw it ude be like "...how the fuck could they smell it from up there?" well it was cuz of the room being a vacuum. sploof it and get yourself a few bottles of blunt power spary. they cover up the smell PERFECTLY. i stand by that. if i get myself a bottle i will smoke a blunt in my room (i would NEVER do that) and spray that shit and literally less than a min later if my mom walked in she would ONLY be able to smell w/e flavor spray you got.

 

well yeah they smelled it cuz you had the window open thats how i got caught my parents could smell it outside

oh yeah you really do need to be extremely tidy when it comes to smoking pot in your room wash all your sheets towels clothes at least once a week and vacuum thats important too

the smoke sticks, especially if you like blunts but your probably better off with a bong, except the taller it is the harder to hide

 

well what happens around here usually, is you get a court citation from the cops, and you are no longer allowed to live on campus.
