For example on the simpsons when homer's smoking medicinal marijuana he sees colors and all the werid things. Also on that 70's show when they all get caught blazing and are getting the talking to from foremans parnest there seeing shit that isn't from weed. My conclusion, for those who have tried mushrooms before, is that the general public perceives the effects of weed to be much more similar to the effect of magic mushrooms.
well how else can you translate it into film i wonder.. you can't make the audience feel a high, instead you use the medium of film and show visuals and messed up audio clips it completely misrepresents marijuana but how else can you do it
ya thats always pissed me off alot, i think it does more of a dissrevice to the reputation of marijuana then good.

I think That 70's Show does the best job of portraying highness, not to say that it's completely accurate. This is actually a good subject; before I started toking I thought weed was all psychadelic, purely based on what I saw on tv (sadly that Simpsons episode mostly). They need to stop relating it to an out-of-this-world mind fuck, and show it as a mellow experience. How to do that remains to be seen. +rep for the thread idea though.
There are plenty of movies that accurately represent weed highs. Cheech & Chong, Dazed & Confused, Harold & Kumar, Half Baked, the list goes on and on. The thing is that a lot of those are liked only by stoners. Sober people aren't interested in watching lazy stoners gorge themselves - only other pot-heads like watching that. People that don't blaze are much more interested in swirling colors, flashing lights, and distorted sounds.

You know how you "see stars" when you're really dehydrated or suddenly get a head rush from standing up too quickly? I get that from decent weed from time to time, so I'll say that I have hallucinated on weed. Was it to the degree of any other psychodellic drug? Hell no. In fact it was more like a "background" hallucination where I see reality, and also the trippy shit. Very hard to explain, but visuals can happen. Just not like from the Simpsons
I was thinkin the same thing. Half Baked is funny - but In my most humble opinion, I do not feel it portrays the smoking of marijuana accurately. The whole bit about the floating/flying was pretty out there, dont ya think?
it is misrepresentation... but there is really no other way to show it.... because everything is the same when you are high, yet it is different... so they have to show crazy visuals...
yea that 70s show does the best. Even when they see small stuff, like the mouth of those areosmith moving and stuff, i alot of times though i saw stuff. Even though i really didnt, i would be like holy fuck did that just move or something and people would be like ummmm no. This was only in the very beginning.
