Does weed fuck with my meomory? or brain?

Discussion in 'Marijuana Consumption Q&A' started by Weeeeds, Oct 30, 2012.

  1. I'm just wondering, I'm a College student and I'm always studying and shit would this affect my studies? I'm not worried about addiction just the effects.

  2. Based on this post, I'll put my money on memory.

Specifically in the area of spelling.

Yes marijuana negatively effects memory. So yeah, just don't study or go to lecture high and you'll be fine.

  4. I can't remember

  5. It affects short-term memory so smoking and learning dont mix. The info needs time to settle in your brain.

  6. not at the same time.

  7. I always lived by "if you learn high, take the test high". But we're all different so.

  8. Weed affects your SHORT TERM MEMORY. Not the long term. There is proof that marijuana helps older people towards fighting Alzheimer's disease.

Only the short term will have a problem
    - Where's my cell phone now?!
    - Did I take my keys with me?
    - What was I supposed to do???
    - Not being able to remember dreams after smoking etc.

BUT if you stop smoking your SHORT TERM MEMORY will go back to the same.
Remember, you can always train your memory by trying to memorize through repeating and forcing your mind to pay more attention.

All that crap about burning brain cells and weed is bad for you are BS. You are burning brain cells since you were in your mom. You never stop losing cells. Losing and re-creating. You lose brain cells when you sleep, sit down and watch the moon and when you take a shit as well.

  9. Cannabis enhances your brains ability to produce neurotransmitters.
Bad for short term memory though.

  10. Only when I'm high and its things like where the hell did I put my bong

Sent from my iPod touch using GC Forum

  11. Nope, just don't smoke before class, tests etc and you will be fine

  12. It affects short term memory which means you careless about trivial things that do not matter. Moderation is key, smoke after your studies sorta like a reward.

  13. No it doesnt affect your....

Wait, what was I talking about?

  14. Some people are saying learning and smoking don't mix, but I've taken many tests super baked and have gotten great grades. I think it's all about will power. If you smoke a sativa strain (as long as you're not having a HUGE session) and then actually try to study and try on the quiz/test/paper, I think you'll do well. I guess it's different for different people.

Anyways, it affects short term memory, but not with long term.

    Good luck, OP! :)

  15. depends on the person?

  16. Ya your short term memory flips I will run downstairs to get something and by time i make it to the bottom i forgot what i was doing sonetimes like 3 times but its only really bad if ive smoked recently

  17. I am a smoker but I slow down BIG TIME when I go to school. I always make sure that I don't touch weed a day or two before my college exams.

Some people say that without smoking they cannot do H/W but I don't believe in that technique. I LOVE weed, I smoke as much as my life responsibilities and pocket let me, but it affects short term memory; and that does not match school.;)

Nah man. Weed just fucks your brain. That's why you feel good, braingasms.

  19. I also want to clarify this.

The "Marijuana kills brain cells" conclusion was based off a study done by Dr. Robert Heath back in the 1970s. He found that exposure to Marijuana smoke does indeed kill brain cells. And it did kill brain cells in the Rhesus monkeys.

The problem with the study is that he would hook the Rhesus monkeys up to respirators and pump many times the amount of normal marijuana smoke into a Rhesus monkey, sometimes up to 30 minutes at a time. This is what caused the brain cell damage. CO poisoning. Of course lack of oxygen kills brain cells, that's universally accepted.

So thanks to that faulty study, that to this day, is accepted by the DEA, unlike the plethora of studies done afterwards that ALL show the contrary, it is taught in classrooms around the US.

As for memory lapse, I've never really had that problem. The only problem I've ever had is being high during a lecture and spacing out. Get an audio recorder. Or, get a webcam and record all the lectures. If you don't have a big enough hard drive, buy an external and put them all on there. I know it's expensive, but wasting college tuition is even more expensive. I'm not a big fan of waste, bud or money.

  20. I thought bud destroys and replicates new cells?
