  1. i started late this year... maybe the first week in July. so when it came time to topping, i only topped 3x vs a bit more. with 4-5 gallon pots my plants are somewhat root bound, but here's the thing. i've harvested this year and got pretty near the same yield as the previous years.

i'm guessing that topping merely rearranges the size and weight of individual buds, but overall, it will only be through increasing the size of my pots that i'll ever get any more yield out of my plants.

  2. Topping creates several fat colas instead of having one massive cola and then crap towards the middle and bottom of the plant. It also allows sun to hit all colas better. Many other factors (like a larger pot as you mentioned) will create a better yield. Nutrients, medium, pest control, etc.

This is the first year that I was really serious about topping and I'll tell ya.........I'm sold. Ended up having only 2 plants and still in the curing process, but I'm guessing I'll have about a pound of good bud. REALLY good bud. Quality over quantity.

  3. The bigger the pot the bigger the plant. Topping will increase yield a decent amount, and it also helps if you spread the plant out with a trellis.

But having more space for roots in conjunction with a regular feeding schedule is the best way to grow larger plants. Large root space, regular feeding, topping, LST, starting your plants earlier... those will all help increase yield.
