Does this job (email) look like a scam to you?

Discussion in 'General' started by Matticus, Oct 13, 2010.

  1. So I replied to an ad on Craigslist regarding an office / customer service position that they are looking to fill with my resume, and got a response that asked for me to get a credit score because I will be handling a company credit card.

The reason why I think this may be a scam is because there is nothing personal in that email that they couldn't send to every other applicant, and they may be hoping to farm credit information.

The credit score rating looks like a referral link as well...

    Here's the email:

  2. Scam. He runs the site, you put data in to get your "credit checked" and then he gets your data.

  3. That's way too good to be true.

  4. Anything on craigs list is fake

  5. Not true... I got a job at a parking garage from an ad on CL, and also delivering flyers which I did for a day (walked so much my big toe nail turned purple on both feet). I think there was also another job I had for a day delivering pizzas, which I also got injured on (ankle).

There are jobs on craigslist, just not a lot of decent ones.

  6. craigslist is a last resort if that and its full of scammers ..one guy tried to sell me a '02? wrx subaru with mods bodykit and other stuff for $2890 shipped through a online shipping company from SLC to CA

  7. Oh god..a parking garage job would be awesome. Sure, the pay probably isn't great, but I would skate and skate and skateeee..

  8. 100% scam.

  9. perhaps but in this case Devoke is right. Notice the ID at the end of the link; That is the gotcha.:cool::smoke:

Perform the credit check here www.yourfreescore360.com/?id=MzPYjFU5

    Ripoff/identity scam.

  10. Nah there's no skating allowed in the garage... most of the job is sitting in the parking garage booth letting cars out and sitting on the internet. Every now and then you can walk the garage if you want but if you get caught skating you might get canned.

EDIT: Thanks for confirming my suspicions guys.

  11. Is the company HordonCorp?

  12. All you have to do is Google a few paragraphs like

The fact that there are people quoting that first paragraph verbatim asking if it's a scam should raise red flags

  13. Sherpmedia.com

at least that's the name of his email domain...

I checked the site and it's just an under construction logo...

  14. Probably hosted; let's see what we get;

It wouldnt surprise me that he picked a name very close to another.

  16. So is Tom Brolson this guy's real name? Or do you think it's just another alias?

Hard to tell. It may be a real name for the guy that set it up or is hosting the site through a contract with Melbourne IT. That guy may be the scammer. :devious::cool:

Edited to add; I believe the name and address may be real.
A little reading seems to indicate that the account was set up through yahoo Domain service. They in turn contract with Melbourne IT to actually set it up. The phone number is likely not the registrant.

  18. So this guy lives in Sunnyvale, CA? I tried to whitepages.com him and couldn't find a #. Then again with all the cell phones nowadays it's a lot harder to find someone on that site. Also found his facebook page if it's the same guy but it was set to private.
