I live with people who cannot find out about my plant. In our basement we have a storage room with a shit ton of boxes, so I plan on taking an empty box, wrapping it in aluminum foil (on the inside) and growing in there. I have cut a hole in the back for the power cord for my light. What is the best way to allow the plant to breathe? I was thinking of cutting holes in the side of the box, however light would escape if I did that...any ideas or improvements to my setup? Thanks guys
Well to start, do not use aluminum foil. The reflective material is nearly non effective and can cause hotspots and end up burning your plant. Go buy some mylar, or panda wrap. Since its cardboard, im not going to recommend painting it with a flat white paint, but its up to you. You will need to cut a hole for exhaust, and youll need to somehow get a fan in there for air circulation. The cardboard box isnt the greatest idea, but ive seen some members here make it work. Im assuming youll be using CFL lighting, so make sure you figure out the best way to get those lights closest to the plants. Youll need to think about what soil, and nutrients youll be giving. Hope this helps..
HAHAHAHA yes I concur! I also have to agree with SmokedOut too.... Aluminum foil = BAD Carboard is not a good idea....any humidity buildup and that box will just collapse lol
Alright cool, my seeds are still germinating, so I have time for changes. So scratch the aluminum idea, I"ll pick up some panda. And I have bought organic potting soil from home depot and I plan on mixing that with some tuna. Yes I have CFL lighting, and two 6in computer fans along with a humidifier I'll be using. Like I said this is my first time growing, so I'm not expecting a terrific plant, I'm just gonna go with trial and error over the next year until I find something that works. However, any advice you'd be willing to give would be awesome. If you don't mind, I have a few questions I hope you wouldn't mind answering: 1. What's your recommendation for what to add to my organic soil? 2. How deep should I plant the seedling in the soil after germination is complete? 3. How often and much do you water your plants? 4. From the beginning (planting of seed), whats a good lighting sequence to follow through with?

You should place it with the tap root facing down about a qaurter inch in the soil. It won't need water until you have about 4 little leaves and then you should put enough in to have wet soil through out, but in the beginning just a little bit, and only water when soil is dry do not water already wet soil because canabis likes to drink all of its water before it obtains more. You should start on a 20/4 to 18/6 id say.
