Does cropping lowers increase main cola potency?

    1. When you lollipop, i understand that the plant can focus on the upper buds but does it increase the potency of the upper buds significantly?

    2. If you keep the lower branches will they increase the time for the overall flowers to mature? Or will the uppers mature faster based on light exposure and the lowers a lil slower?

    3. Does the overall size of the plant have any effect in the time it takes to reach maturity.

I’m at day 37 of flower after a 2 month sesh of veg. I did extensive lsm and topping in veg with a tuck and bend below the trellis technique until the canopy filled my light footprint. I ended up with about a 15 gal plant pot and what looks like a huge root system in soil. The reason I’m asking is I have her clones in veg and would like advise on what I can tweak as they will go into the flower space after this bitch is done. Looking for suggestions that can preserve or increase potency while not sacrificing yield.

  2. Hope this answers your main questions brother. As far as potency goes there’s nothing much you can really do besides purchasing great genetics and maybe supplementing a little UV-B spectrum for trichome production.

  3. not quite. specific stressors increase cannabinoid biosynthesis. @vostok that crazy stoner, he just posted some crucial evidence based information in a dedicated thread: Jasmine: SAR vs JAR & the need to Defoil. (its deep)

    1. When you lollipop, i understand that the plant can focus on the upper buds but does it increase the potency of the upper buds significantly?
It increases the amount of available nutrients and helps to plant to focus on nth bud instead. If properly trained, the plant can produce ~the same for each cola, but lower branches are trimmed off. I personally understand the feeling of 'oh its flowering and its a bud' but each time disappointingly throw the (bottom) product into the larf bag. Just cut.

    2. If you keep the lower branches will they increase the time for the overall flowers to mature? Or will the uppers mature faster based on light exposure and the lowers a lil slower?
No increase in time that I'm aware of, although the second question maybe true. Some people debate over the timing vs the texture, meaning some people believe the entire plant should be harvested at a given time, whereas others stagger the grow. I'm on the fence with this. I've harvested lowers after a couple weeks more, but it was still larf. Just cut.

    3. Does the overall size of the plant have any effect in the time it takes to reach maturity.
Yes and no, meaning that the vegetative cycle will take longer to achieve a larger plant, but no in that flowering time should remain roughly the same. I'm not talking 'one-cup' challenges here, just normal plants. I personally haven't really seen much of a difference in flowering times based on size.

The lower foliage I would probably remove is indicated in the picture. The other buds (light exposure and size) seem fine.

Lastly, I've written up my methods on scrogging which, imo, maximizes the amount of bud in a given space. Why not have a look?

  4. Thanks, the genetics are solid as far as I can tell. It’s a blue dream clone and it’s tricomb density is actually pretty impressive. As for the light it’s a full spectrum bestva 1200w which is just under 300 watts at the wall I’m pretty sure it has a couple uv diodes.

  5. Highly doubt there UV-B diodes but uva which is more likely can help a bit too.

Banging genetics and a good environment should do it.

  6. I’m not gonna throw articles at you just tell you what I’ve experienced.
I absolutely lollipop, those little buds take precious energy from the big ones. Honestly who wants that little crap?
If you have nice lower branches that have nice buds and spacing, then I pull each one up to see if they can possibly catch up to the main cola. If so, then I keep them, if not I use them for clones. That’s the great thing about lollipop girl, you can get a ton of clones.

Thanks for the correction, brother. Didn’t see I worded it wrong so sorry that it was misread. You are correct though, I meant keeping lowers doesn’t increase time for flower, that’s mostly genetics. But it does help mature the bigger flowers without them on, like you were saying. Sorry again brother, and OP.

Thanks I have read that post before, good read. I ended up with this clone and it was already 1.5 ft tall so all the training was done really late. Great info on your reply though, next batch I’ll just trim up the lowers for sure. I think I’ll use the lower fluffy buds and try my hand at concentrates.
