Does anyone use Linux? If so whats your fav Linux OS?

  1. Mine is Arch Linux, its freaking amazing on newer computers with iommu emulation. I am an extreme nerd so let me put that into english, I can run Windows on top of Linux with direct communication to the hardware. So this means I can play Skyrim and Fallout and stuff on Windows running on top of Linux. This is done through a process known as PCI Passthrough and I love my current setup of Arch Linux and Windows 10 without the need to reboot.

What do you guys who run Linux use in terms of distro?

  2. I use Mint with xfce desktop on all my old machine to keep them running faster.

  3. Sounds like a nice setup. I'm still (kinda) new to linux distros overall (there's a few subject ones I'm good with), been playing around with loading different ones off my phone to my laptop. Still trying to find what works for me

  4. I love using Linux.. I use Ubuntu.

I love the fact that I've never, EVER.. had a single case of spyware, malware, PUP, virus, trojan, etc. when using Ubuntu.. though that's not the only reason I use it.

Also love how much faster you can run 3D applications, as well as video rendering. Ubuntu has excellent video rendering software choices, all free of charge.. whereas Windows programs ask you for fucking serial numbers all the time. They really need to get with the times these guys - computer software just isn't profitable anymore. You'd be way better off sticking with smartphone apps.

  5. I should really follow your lead, because I haven't bothered installing 'nix on my main since I game with it.

Tails, Kali, and some live recovery utils kickin around on USBs somewhere. Was thinking about SteamOS, bought the controller and just am not feeling it yet.. hopefully next gen is better.

  6. Debian, cause of all the Linus distros I tried I pulled the least amount of hair out of my head with Debian.

I cant believe OP's favorite is Arch, are you a masochist, I nearly went mad trying to work with Arch. Lasted bout 2 days.

  7. LOL @bwood I know what you mean. I was intrigued by the idea of Arch Linux, after reading the reviews, I was left with the feeling that I was most assuredly out of my league if I installed it.

  8. ubuntu + cinnamon mint

  9. Debian on my personal machines and Ubuntu on servers. I've still yet to build a complete OS from LFS. I've used Arch, but I've been on Debian since early 2000's and never really felt the need to switch. On my personal machines I use i3. Best window manager ever. Period.

I also have a secure Thinkpad that runs QubesOS. I also use Kali for pentesting.

  10. Server side Red Hat/Centos
    Client side; Ubuntu, Mint

Strange that... Fedora just sucks client side

  11. Arch and Debian mostly

Parabola for home computer (librebooted x200) and Debian for my servers

Which linux distro is the most intuitive for windows converts? Mint and Ubuntu keep coming up as the best options, but I'm a little overwhelmed with the idea of transitioning to a totally different OS. I'm using Windows 7 right now. I'm not real tech savvy, I just want to be able to get my homework done without having to deal with any more of microsoft's bs. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
