Does anybody have a Grobo

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by kenziegrower, Jul 10, 2018.

  1. Anybody have a Grobo, I live in Canada and cannabis is being legalized on October 17th so I'm looking start growing. Looking at a couple different options but this seems to be the best one that I've seen for a beginner grower with no experience. Anybody have any experience with it/suggest something different?

  2. I have no experience with one and I never will. Absurdly expensive for such a small space. I'm not sure absurdly is quite descriptive enough.

  4. $2000 for that piece of ...
dude, you can have a much better setup with a tent, PCB lighting, hydroponic setup, etc piecing out the parts and control boards if you like.
I agree with mac and killset. There are much better setups for $2K.

  5. i just grow in a home made tent used to grow 4 plants under 250w sodium a cheap sodium lamp and a 125w blue spec CLF ,,really cheap .so with $2000 your be laffing for choice ,,mine set cost me few £££s ,,mac,,

  6. For 1000 Canadian I got a 4x4 tent with a 6 inch inline and a 600w mh/hps air cooled hood reflector setup and all the bells and whistles (timers, rope ratchet hangers, circulation fans etc etc....) another 250 and I made my soil mix that will last for years and years as long as I take care of it with very minimal cost on more worm poop. The amendments I bought with that 250 is enough to last a couple years of reamending

  7. Yeah i second that mate. Ive rigged out 2 attics with enough gear to grow a couple kilos at a time for less than what one of those things cost.

You dont need all the fancy gear, at the end of the day its just a plant.
If your options for grow space are limited you can build a box with a few bits of timber and some plaster board.
Then buy the componenets seperatly for a fraction of the price.
Any questions youve got though dont be scared to ask, most folks round here are always happy to help :)

  8. Okay, I appreciate all the tips guys! My only question would be what about time and expertise neccesarry (as I am literally a brand new grower). From what I understand you guys are suggesting either a grow tent or a DIY system. I'm just a little worried about setting it up as I'm not much of a handy man.
Also how often do you have to tend to the plants, what I originally liked about the Grobo system is that it takes care of that sort of stuff for me.
Also as a casual smoker I probably only go through about an ounce a month so I figured I only really need about 1 maybe 2 plants at most so I don't really think I need a big tent as my growing space is also somewhat limited.

Thanks again for all the tips, really appreciate the support as a new grower.

  9. Depending on your area, I would recommend 2x3 tent? maybe 2x4. Get a inline fan with CFM of ~400. Grab a couple 6" fans for inside. You should probably get a Carbon filter too. The lights, I would recommend a quantum board (QB) or maybe even a Migro (bit costly but very nice light). Two 288 or 304 PCB boards would fill your room up nicely. Beyond that, you will need a pH pen, and I recommend reading over MickFoster's COCO thread here. You can buy preassembled PCB light kits, but mostly all the setup has been described in detail on this site.

  10. Thanks a lot. I'll check it out now!

  11. If you want to spend $2,000. Look at Black Dog LED grow kit

  12. It's super easy to set up a simple grow. You don't need to be a handyman at all

  13. It’s an expensive growbox that’s small, poor lighting and no way to combat root rot without extra purchases (external water chillers). This device is sold without a chiller to keep the res below 72 degrees. End users on allgrowers (grobo) forum average 1-2 ounces per harvest. This is about half of what is advertised from 2-3 ounces.

The fact is this device (grobo/seedo) is advertised to amateur growers looking to get into the cannabis market. Fact is, people can grow for a fraction of the money and the same amount of time spent.

Anyone who grows cannabis will tell you nothing is completely automated and will require intervention at some point. These devices are no different. In fact, not a single grobo grow comes without issues and the secret data from your probes in which is never shared with the owner.

Does this unit grow cannabis? Yes.
Does it grow cannabis well? No
Will my plant suffer ph swings, nutrient imbalances and struggle from day one in the grobo? Yes
How do I fix nutrient/PH issues? Email support to look at your super secret probe data and hope the folks on the back end adjust correctly.
Does the grobo have issues? Yes, hardware issues for all owners which are replaced if within that warranty period. Let’s mention the wireless nic required to stay online. A common complaint from owners is the wireless NIC dropping connection regularly.
    Support hours? 9-5 M-F

This is a fad - Words from a former owner - someone wanting to automate life and was hopeful for this device. It shows a lot of promise and is lightyears ahead of the competition in comparison to Seedolab, but nowhere near a fully automated device and lacks many must haves.

  14. Mostly true from a happy grobo customer. I love mine. I don't have to use a chiller but you're right, root rot does happen quiet a bit. I manage it with Hydroguard which is much cheaper than a chiller. You're also right about how much you yield, about 2-2.5 is the max I've seen. You're also right that no grow is fully automatic. From changing the water weekly, to all the training that needs to be done to keep your bud sites exposed, be ready to play an active role in your grow. As for PH issues, you won't get them if you just clean your probe. You are right that they still have our data hidden and we are all still waiting for the update that will allow us more insight without having to place a ticket to support. I hate that. But it does work and I get A+++ buds. They are the best smoke I've ever had and I live in CA. A BIG reason why I put up with the short comings is that it's small, mostly smell proof, secure from kids, and mostly automated. I'm not sure I'd spend 2k on one. I got mine for a little under 1500 before they launched. If you are interested, they do have a give away going on now that ends in a week, so you could get one for free or get anywhere from $1000 to $500 off. (That's the link if you want to toss your name in the hat)
