does a humidifier

  1. help with heat? if my humidity is alittle dry anyways, like in the 40's or so. and normal is 50, would getting a humidifier help the heat while its always getting humidity to normal??

  2. humidity in the 40's is perfectly fine. If you have excessive heat, you need to look into ways of exhausting the heat, or air-cooled lights.

  3. I noticed a night-and-day difference in my heat (which was becoming a problem) once I finished my simple "pull-thru" exhaust/ventilation setup. Essentially it's two instake holes at the bottom of the box and two exhaust (simple computer fans) on the oppose side up high. I can leave the growbox for 4 days and the temperature will stay constant. It's great!

  4. got any pics of ur set up. im kinda stressin about my heat situation and im sort of in a position where i cant do much

  5. You asked for it:D

If you find this helpful perhaps you could through some +Rep my way

Pick up a few ball-bearing computer fans. You can get great fans at a great price from tigerdirect.com. Fans like this one:

You need to find out how many amps they draw. If it doesn't say on any of the packaging, go down to Radioshack and find one of comparable size (120mm) and see what the amperage is. Then, go down to Radioshack and purchase an a/c to d/c power adapter. It just looks like a cell phone adapter. It's like $20:

Make sure you get one that is big enough to support your fan(s). If each fan requires .5A (or 500mA) then get something that will handle it. For example, if two fans draw 1amp (or 1000mA) total then buy a power adapter that can handle 1.5A (or 1500mA) and you'll have more then enough.

Then, while you are there, purchase some "butt" connectors. You can ask them for help if needed. They look like this:

Cut the end off the power adapter. On both the adapater and fan(s) strip the plastic off the last inch of all wires. If you don't have any tools you can do it with a knife if you are careful. They make a tool just for this, which helps a lot. Once you have about an inch of bare wire, slip the adapter end into one side of the connector pictured above and slip fan end into the other. Crimp (compress) the connector down with some needle nose plyers. If your fans have three wires, a yellow, red, and black, splice the yellow and red together. The yellow is a switch wire and can be used to turn your fan on and off, but that won't be an issue for you.

If you aren't sure which wire is positive on your adapter, touch the wires together while the adapter is plugged in (be careful). If the fans turn in the correct direction, you are good to go. If they turn in the opposite direction of what they are supposed to then you have it backwards.

Once everything is crimped you should be good to go :). It will look something like this. Notice the little connectors at the bottom of the picture and how the red and yellow are spliced together:

You can kind of see what I did for intake in the picture below. I just cut two holes using a circular drill bit and used some black pipe. You can find the pipe in the plumbing section of any hardware store.

  6. A bathroom exhaust fan from walmart or a hardware store would work better than computer fans IMO. They are made to move air.

  7. awesome, thanks azure, +rep

and ya im new to the forums, is that all i do and u get +rep? or i gotta do something else?

  8. Hehe, there is a little "button" above each post with a picture that looks like this:

If you go to a post from me and click that you can +rep me (or anyone). I hope the advice does indeed help!

A bathroom fan would move more air. Ball-bearing computer fans are ideal (in my opinion) in my specific situation. I have a small growbox, 3' x 2' x 2'. If you had a taller grow box or an actual clost or room computer fans wouldn't cut it. They are working fantastically for my growbox though :)

  9. My box is 4 feet tall, 3 feet wide, and 2 feet deep. I have a bathroom exhaust fan in there and it sucks everything out fast.

I use computers fans for my intake though.

  10. Right on. For me noise is critical with it being a stealth growbox. I went with the computer fans (two of them together) because they are almost silent :hello:

  11. so a bathroom exhaust is better for bigger spaces? how do u hook these up? or can you just plug these into regular plugs

  12. A bathroom exhaust is very effecient for small spaces....if you have a big space you may need a squirell fan or something like that.

The bathroom exhausts come with wires hanging off them to hook up. You can splice those wires with a plug end and use a wall socket to work them. You can cut the end off of a lamp, extention cord, etc to use.
