Does A Company Have To Tell You Its Drug Testing Policy Before Hiring?

Discussion in 'Cannabis Consumption Q&A & Tips' started by DoctorReefer, May 9, 2014.

  1. I landed an internship doing some programming stuff, (and office bitch stuff I presume lol) at a local credit union(well, its a national chain). When I went in for my second interview I got some papers about my rights and stuff, but nothing metioning a testing policy. Testing never came up as a question in either Interview.

I haven't been smoking incase of a DT.

    I want to smoke.

Probabaly not going to either way, but does a company have to tell you its testing policy before your hired?

    How about when I'm hired?

could I be working for a week and then get hit with a random DT?

  2. no, they will tell you that youre peeing in a bottle to find a cure for cancer.

  3. They can test whenever, however, and whoever they want.

  4. usually they will have you sign a paper stating their intentions before you even start.  if a pre employment drug screening is needed you will need to turn one in before they even offer you a job.

i had a drug test for a sales job that stated they only tested for cocaine, amphetamines and opiates.  the hiring manager said if you smoke pot they don't care just don't bring it to work.

the hospital i worked at when i was in high school had a honesty policy.  no drug tests unless suspicious activity occurs.

  5. Damn wish other employers took up those ideas.

  6. They can only test you if it's in your employment contract

  7. Honesty is the best policy lol

OP you should just give it a week or two..yes you want to smoke but just as soon as you do, they might want you to piss in a cup the next day.

If you wait a couple weeks..and they still haven't tested you, they probably aren't gonna test you. Drug testing policy really should be in the papers they gave you..if you can't find anything, it's probably a good sign they won't test you.

In my experience, chances are that if they don't test you when they offer you the position, it's unlikely they'll test you once you've started working, unless it's for a disciplinary reason such as smoking on the job.
In your contract will probably be a clause saying that you give them the right to test you should they choose. They probably won't tell you if they will or will not for certain.
That said, different workplaces operate differently. I've never been involved working at a credit union or any bank so I can't tell you for certain.

  10. I signed something when I went in  for that second interview, it was only a page, I scanned it and saw nothing about DT. As I think about it, if they were going to do it, they definately would have done it already.

  11. K I was wondering myself since I just got promoted from a part-time retail associate position to a full-time position in their corporate office (small with 15 people). I was interviewed and there was no mention of a drug test and was given paperwork to sign the job offer and such and again, no mention of a drug test. I even asked the guy that hired me if there was anything else that was needed from me before I start next Monday and he said no. So, I have to turn in my paper work Monday and I highly doubt they would spring up a test on me. What do you think?

  12. You're good bro. If they don't go over their drug testing terms before you sign your paperwork you're good.
