Does A/C perc angle matter?

Discussion in 'Bongs, Dab Rigs & Bubblers' started by Jeptha, Nov 24, 2012.

  1. I just bought a new water pipe with an A/C for black Friday, and when I got it home, I noticed that the A/C sits at an angle. As far as functionality goes, will I notice a difference at all as opposed to the A/C being completely level? Here's a pic:

  2. Ive never seen 2 red bars before

  3. Yeah, will you notice it? Probably not:)

  4. lol, my OCD wouldn't let me leave it alone, so I took it back to the shop, and the manager upgraded me to this for free when he saw how much of an angle it was titled (I'm new at this, obviously). Here's what I have now. Sorry for blurriness.

  5. Yeah for the inline percs tilt dosent really make a difference anyway nice buy!

  6. kinda stupid how both those a/cs are considered 45degree but don't make it straight at all, but honestly I think a 90 degree a/c is best because if you tilt the bong 45 then you have both the a/c and downstem pointing straight down.

  7. 90 degree with it tilted would mess up the angle of the perc in the tube thought. I'd run it with the inline.

  8. This is a pretty common problem, actually. It's usually tilted one way or the other. I have an AC that is tilted the other direction. Ideally, it should be parallel with the bong.

A member on here once posted a similar problem and said he took his propane torch and heated up the neck of the AC tube and then bent it straight, himself!

  9. Its only a "common problem" when the shop or the customer has no idea what they're doing. Joints are made at either a 90 degree or a 45 degree angle, and you should therefore buy an A/C with a corresponding angle.
if you don't, you end up with a crooked A/C like OP here, I'm sure it still functions fine, but it won't be optimal performance and it just looks awkward

also I highly recommend that, unless you're experienced in working with borosilicate, you don't try to heat up and bend your joint. Easy way to mess up some expensive glass haha

  10. No. it's a common problem because those angles are never exact. Either the down stem angle is a little off or the AC angle is a little off. It doesn't take much. And if both are slightly off then the problem is exacerbated.

  11. Bleh Ashcatchers...

    Never been a fan..

    just more glass to clean,

    Significantly added drag...

    bleh. Get a carbon filter

  12. How has someone not noticed the tube here... Generally the down stem doesn't stick out almost horizontally and the end of the stem is in the center of the beaker, not the corner. That's why it's so far off.

  13. Bleh... Yea, I should have done more research on this. You live, you learn I guess. Oh well, considering this is my first bong, I feel I could have made worse choices.

That is strange though, chance174. Considering it's a Zob (I'm told those are supposed to be pretty good), I didn't figure an issue like that would come up.

  14. Well it's not necessarily a fault just because its different. Originality lol. You just may be better off looking into ZOB ashcatchers since they made the funky angle lol.

  15. you can buy angle adapters to make a 45 degree a 90 degrees or vice versa. there pretty cheap too

  16. Just fill it up a bit more, and dont over pack it and you should be fine but that a/c doesnt go with that setup

  17. Yea, I'll look into it in the future. Right now I just care that I'm getting full, or near full functionality. Aesthetics can go sit on the bench until I graduate college, lol.
