Do you believe in the philosophical concept of “free will”?

  1. I wonder, and maybe I am posing this to you who dont believe in free will.

why do you act like free will exists if you really dont think it does?

furthermore, if free will doesnt exist, why do you think the universe saw fit that you both

    a. dont believe it

    b. act in a manner that reflects that you do believe it

it almost seems to me it takes some mental gymnastics to avoid the obvious, i.e. that you have free will.

  2. initial circumstances- being born human and on earth, the state of humanity, your location on earth and the contending of resources and influence.
choice is available but, regulated by biological function and mental capacity, tentatively.

being completely free with no discretion is a human idea- the only existence known and that can be measured, is this universe- no matter the degree, its completely proven true because, we/us/life are currently experiencing it, in the continuous moment of 'now'.
human existence is only a facet of the cosmos

  3. Why is that the case? Because humans have free will or the universe wanted humans to invent an idea that is false? Is the universe trying to lie to itself?

  4. because, humans are the only beings currently proven capable to have understanding and knowledge to an intelligent extent- able to contemplate their own existence.

  5. So humans are capable of conceptualizing something that is impossible within the parameters of the universe? If that were the case it almost seems that the universe itself has a will, and that will extends beyond the parameters of itself.

  6. ability to make decisions from the organization of information acquired thru senses
not just acting on pure instinct alone, but instead able to exercise empathy and concern.
everything existing evolved from necessity, to the point that humans can impose their will on the environment and its manifests.

nothing can't be experienced. it can't exist, because something does- the universe.

energy in the universe is composed of patterns and sequence, never complete static. matter of all variants; vibrating, occurring together, creating motion and change. the universes existence is indefinite. infinity cant be measured like eternity cant be experienced.

on a conscious self-discovery, the universe has no mirrors or relationships to provide feedback or guidance- nothing other than itself for reference. universe has no prejudice, desire or concerns, its completely unfettered. the universe is an area of continuity, where all matter coincides. all objects in the universe share a mutual essence; a common origin. all that exists in the universe is necessary- human observation, perception and awareness is not vital to the universe existing.

humans have an inherent motivation to seek answers and elaborate. realizing evidence and determine methods to advance progress. the capacity to consider different consequence for applied actions; collective and individual to ascertain indisputable fact. nothing negates the universe from existing.

humans are a subsidiary to the universe existing. our importance is dependent on a tentative system of rules that governs the universe- 'laws'
the universe is devoid; no perfect vacuum; everything radiates energy and has potential for change. humans can acknowledge the universe is real because, we can analyze its nature. our confidence is that we rely on earth to sustain life and not be destitute. the universe and its manifests are exclusively physical. separation of mind and body is a human concept. personal being-oneself- their ideas and actions- help form the collective consciousness of humanity.

because, humans have overcome natural selection, theyre the pinnacle of life on earth- being able to control- to a degree- the earths environment and creatures. there is no doubt the universe exists. inherent attributes of the universe are that everything radiates and absorbs energy. the universe has many frequencys; absolute stillness is absent. energy is eternal- cant be created or destroyed- only conserved. potential is infinite- try to count irrational pi. the universe cant escape itself, it has no alternative. the process is involuntary. purpose is a human idea, the universe has no sentiment or program, it operates objectively. humans just happen to exist and can observe it.

humans are the only species on earth with technology advanced enough to ensure and satisfy convenience- like a constant supply of nourishment, with minimal effort.

unlike humans, the universe is not responsible for anything it manifests, there is no obligation. we are a universal contingency. humans reserve a faculty on earth, our weakness is suffering. maintaining a state of continual peace and love; showing compassion, despite contrasting situations or opinions. an explicit truth is the universe seems to exist. impressive breakthrus in science cause more understanding and purpose for the human condition.

because humans struggle, they can experience extremitys, trying to maintain the illusion of balance and contentment by acting rational. there is no temporary doubt that the universe exists. the state of the universe is permanent but, always changing. humans can articulate thoughts and apply them to reality thru expressing communication- mainly language. the rate social change happens is correlated with societys willingness to accept differences and compromise.

value of life is the fact that no one can choose who they exist as. like 2pac said, 'dont blame me, i was given this world, i didnt make it'. mortal humans all succumb to death. currently, theres no possible way to revive someone back to life once their presumed dead. hence, one life to live. humans are partly responsible for earths environmental condition, as our influence extends that of all other inhabitants, we generate the most stress and problems. thru association, humans have agreed to form community.

supporting eachother to nurture the concept of love and affection, begining in the womb, maximize positive energy and suppress negative.

accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative. lies are used to subjugate and diminish people of their earthly heritage and work thru generations.

  8. The future is already set, and we're constantly catching up to it.

  9. humanitys exact future is indefinite but, we do have partial control over its outcome, of both individual and collective entitys.

  10. Your subjective experience of reality is mostly that you have free will, but there's nothing about you that isn't conditioned, and existent as it is, that isn't conditioned. There's no point in speculating about free will when your being itself is not ultimately real. There is no permanent self, nor a self existent independent from conditioned reality. In essence, you have both complete free will and no free will, simultaneously.

  11. We all are born with and possess free will... its free to have... That said there are several contributing factors that in a sense inhibit free will. Laws, rules by parents, school, religion. Religion exists to crush free will, gotta have them alter boys thinking the same way.... but society isn't designed that way, society allows you to express yourself, put it all out there but again whether you choose to express you free will or not is not baed on a lack there of but rather subsequent results of your actions..

If you decide to stab your neighbor cause his dog shit in your lawn you're free to do so but you don't do so not because you lack free will but because there are set consequences for those actions you choose not to deal with. Same goes for verbal expressions..

  12. I disagree with this statement in any context. I agree we all have free will it's our to have and use at our discretion, but to have no free will at all would be like living in Nazi Germany. Even the most devout religious creeps free will.

  13. I think you might be misunderstanding what I'm saying here. It's essentially a paradox, in that, we both have complete free will in respect to our experience, and also on the atemporal dimension of existence, everything is predetermined. It's just temporal experience and subjectivity that provides the complete illusion of free will. Yet that illusion itself is complete, so the experience can be considered real in so far as our experience of it is real.

  14. Long time no see Pickle, good to have you back.

  15. I think that our experiences impact the way our brains function as do our genetics. I used to feel that evry decision I made was because it was what my brain thought would make me survive the longest. Then one of my good friends killed himself and that really shook up how I viewed life because if a person can kill themselfthan everything a person does is not for survival. You have free will as long as you don't let anything influence it.

  16. other biological function(currently) energy manifest as consciousnesses and the self-imposed limitations of our own personal perceptions, there are no rules

  17. I think freewill is an idea that we understand and is part of our gene and emotional makeup.. its like a station of consciousness..

When I say and know that I have freewil.. I do indeed feel that the particular category of free will is true and that engenders feelings of peace and happiness..

Freewill is like a middle spot inbetween the past and future..

We can always decide based on these principle decisions of cause and effect..

But its like the question.. what can we change with our freewill?

We are contained in a body that has needs.. and contained in a mind that has wants..we cant just will to fly and go to space in an instant(for we would need drugs to do that! ;)).. but we can choose how to spend our day.. like choosing to go outside for a walk vs watching TV for example..

So the concept of Freewill is true.. but has certain limitations

  18. Free will only lasts until our body needs food, water, sleep, human contact, etc then we go into pseudo auto-pilot lol.

Plus, there are totes mcgoats a crap-ton of influences that are impressed on us from birth onwards and even if we disagree with them they still influence us somewhat.

Free will is kind of an illusion unless you completely let go of everything that makes you a "human" and either get severe brain damage to the point of forgetting even basic language or something even more drastic.

Even then I don't think your really free as other influences will undoubtedly be imposed upon you unless you are in complete seclusion by choice (maybe, idk).

As boundless 1 mentioned, our human bodies kind of make free will impossible or nearly impossible to attain sadly. Maybe one day humans can create robotic forms that require far less upkeep or if we found a way to splice our bodies to get full nourishment from just photosynthesis or small amounts of water maybe free will would be within our grasp.

I'd love to root myself into the side of a nice mountain range for a few months and just chill, that would be pretty neat and cathartic at the same time.

But.... Would smoking weed be almost like cannibalism if we were humanoid plants? Makes you wonder lol!
