Do YOU believe in God?

Discussion in 'Religion, Beliefs and Spirituality' started by Del420, Nov 28, 2004.

  1. If you know your history, people were polytheistic, there were many powerful godmen.

Zeus, Thor, Apollo, etc. prior to that you had Sumerian gods, etc.

Each religion stole from the religions that were around at the time and modified it to suit, eventually replacing the previous religions.

Polytheism was replaced by monotheism and is currently being replaced by atheism.

Dude I know you are the undisputed king of strawman arguments but Jesus Christ where did I say anything abut believing in the Christian God? I want to make this crystal clear for you I am agnostic leaning toward atheism Do you know what an agnostic is? It would appear you don't. I agree that Christians can be annoying but your hatred of them is distorting your view of reality,
I know your use of strawman arguments will never end but here is the definition of agnostic just so we are crystal clear.
    1. a person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God or of anything beyond material phenomena; a person who claims neither faith nor disbelief in God

  3. He is not my socialist god and your post has nothing to do with this thread.

  4. The devil certainly exists, he is inside each of use, it is what we choose to do and how to go about life to keep it that way. We can never let the devil come out of us

  5. There's so much violence in the world its hard to see any good left. Mainly the 'good' is fake

  6. You worship him as a god and that was a small part of my post. You will have do what you hate more then anything in the world known as read the rest of the post.

  7. Where did I say anything about you believing in the christian god?

The christian god is the same as the moslem and jewish god by the way - in case you didn't know so there's no need to single god out as belonging to a specific Abrahamic religion, he is the Abrahamic god.

I notice you do however use the mythical figure of Jesus Christ in your comment, something christians tend to do so you may want to assess your thought patterns and exclude it from your comments otherwise some people may thing you're a Jesus botherer.

Where did I say that I hate christians?

    FYI, I don't hate christians.

I know what an agnostic is.

Why are you so conceited you think my comments were somehow 'picking on you'.

I was explaining about people who believed all powerful godmen, not agnostics.

You seem to have a severe comprehension deficiency, you see one sentence and either do not understand it or twist it to how you want it to read.

    I do not worship him.

I have no gods, that is what makes me atheist.

  9. That would only exclude a god that is conscious and is involved in the welfare of mankind and not a god that is merely an unseen force behind the scenes.

  10. HAHAHA

    The devil does not exist.

Not even Satanists believe in the devil ... or a god.

You are using the devil as an excuse for your wrongdoing because you don't want to admit you do evil things naturally.

You just want to shift the blame - it wasn't me, the devil made me do it.

  11. Because you were quoting me and replying to my posts so that is how I know that you were talking to me.
WTF are you talking about using the mythical Jesus? Nice lie.
You don't have to say you hate Christians because nearly every post you've posted in this thread is talking about Christianity.
Don't you ever talk down to me. Do you even have your grade 10?

I agree 100% with this post. The Devil most certainly does not exist and people in the church of Satan are atheists, and a few of them I'm sure are your brothers and sisters in the atheistic faith, though all of them that I have met were nice friendly people that don't give 2 shits what anyone else believes making them ordinary atheists.

  13. You are kind of sounding a bit like a Christian explaining original sin here:
You are using the devil as an excuse for your wrongdoing because you don't want to admit you do evil things naturally
    Just to let you know.

You totally avoided answering my question.

Again, you saw what I wrote and either did not understand it or twisted it to how you wanted it to read and your reply is about something different entirely.

    The question you ignored was:
Your reply had nothing to do with the question but how you misinterpreted my post.

  16. This has never changed and there is no more violence now than there was in the past - if anything there is less violence now than there ever was.

Potentially offensive rant warning (duh, it's about religion?)

No I don't, not really. I've met more judgmental and seemingly hypocritical Christian people than a lot people who don't identify with any religion, in fact i've sometimes befriended people who Christianity would spit on for their flawed and sinful lives because I had compassion for them. I related to them and their struggle. Same way how in college I related more to down and out people in shit minimum wage jobs than the kids who rolled up in their Escalades mommy and daddy bought for them and had this whole shitty classist thing going on. It felt easier than befriending people who were pious and elitist and clinged to every virtue and shunned those who don't. From everything I've read this is actually what Jesus would do. I think he did exist though and he was a real person and he was black :p I just believe in karma, I think if you hurt people or only care about yourself, it's going to come back to you, I believe the more enlightened and light-giving you become the more people will gravitate toward you. "Jesus take the wheel" is sort of a cop-out for escaping the responsibility of your own actions, how many times have you heard of the people who just keep on doing shitty things and then go to confession on sunday. It's only you who has to live with yourself at the end of the day and I feel like if you need to constantly ask for forgiveness from an unknown diety, your internal moral compass must not work right.

That said it do seem like shitty things happen to good people innit? Whatever spiritual energy gravitated to the West from the East in the 60s and 70s around that whole hippie time has long since given up on the West imo. Who the hell knows where it's gone now. I don't even relate to my own generation and especially the generation after. A lot of them claim "spiritualism", but burning incense and putting a mandala on your wall does not a spiritual person make, sorry. And a lot of them are materialistic. I guess this is why I have a hard time making friends. That, and being 27 and not married when my peers have long since had babies and settled down into their 9-5 and bought a house.

Also, for people who say sex is only for procreation, a lotta them Christian families with 20 kids sure are productive. I'm sure absolutely every single one was the result of a procreative attempt though, no other reason :D
