Im sure you're all about to jump right in and flame me to death BUT, hear me out. Before i start, i am all for legalization. Anyways, i was thinking... if weed is legalized, doesnt this run the risk of it being taken advantage of so to speak. i quiet like it being illegal, apart from the repurcussions obviously. I mean, it makes it sorta 'our thing'. The stoner community is very much that, a community. If it's legalized, then any tom dick and harry can get hold of it and freely smoke, like tobacco, alcohol etc. Which in turn, will end up with idiots abusing it, ruining it for everyone else, and taking advantage of it. Which is what weed completely does not stand for. It hurts me to think of some punk ass preppy dudes walkin down the street smokin their blunts daddy and mommy paid for. I know people like this already do smoke... but iunno. Am i making sense? i'm not quiet sure how to explain it haha! I know, if someones a seasoned weed smoker, they're most likely gonna be a fuckin awesome person to be around, to talk to, to learn off, and just to know. Legalization may jepoardise this communal thing we stoners got goin on yknow?
I was actually just talking to a buddy of mine about this other day - I smoke and he doesn't, so he wanted to get my opinion on legalization. I pretty much told him what you just said. I'm all for legalization, but at the same time I don't know if that'd be the best idea because of how quickly it could become a problem with certain people. With it legalized, it'd exploded into the media, and all those kids who are abusing it would immediately go out and give it a worse name than it has now. But don't get me wrong. Like I said, I'm all for legalization. Sometimes I wonder if people could handle it, though. I think society needs to wise up first, be taught some responsibility and how to manage the resulting repercussions. Who knows how things would become, though.
Of course we want it legalized., But the people who make money off busting people for posession would have no one to bust. The only feasable scenario is it's legalized and we get taxed out the ass. Once it becomes legal everyone will start to grow their own and no one will buy it. The key is money, if there is no money for the suppliers to make then it will remain illegal. Once someone decides to realize that It was legal for centuries, and how much organic use comes from the materials - i think we have a better chance. Until then smoke away
There are pros and cons to legalization. If legalized it will become a commodity and taken advantage of by big corporations for profit. Commercial growers would be out of business, price of weed would sink like a stone and possibly quality would follow suit. I like it illegal in a way as this keeps the riff raff out.
dont care bout the idiots i'd be doing my own thing and media always has a field day with idiots. I'd only hang out and smoke with people i have been smoking with, I want it legitimate. I want to go a party and just smoke tons of weed instead of tons of alcohol. Isn't annoying when you bring herb noone else has good herb and its rare so you have to be stingy at parties exclude some people.
Problem with legalization is that it will be HIGHLY regulated and HIGHLY taxed. It's not like they'll suddenly start letting you grow it in your backyard garden. And as we all know once they start taxing something the only place the cost goes is up. It might start out undercutting street prices but once the government establishes their pot as top dog on the market you can bet the price will explode. I'd rather see decriminalization for the general public and legalization for medical purposes.
To be honest, I'm actually against it. If weed became 100 % legal, including growing and distributing, It will ruin this community we have going, like 'fuckin hundies' said. Legalization WILL ruin this community, I mean, you don't see forums for smoking cigarettes.
In ways, having it illegal is a good thing- it doesn't exist in the system, and personally I feel like the system has become corrupt itself. As well, weed is in ways legal- as long as we have our privacy and can't be searched without reasoning, I think we are always in the clear. I'd only want it to become legal if a lot of other things in government changed first. I don't know, I'm a bit too much of a radical sometimes.
i think its fine the way it is, we'll always be able to get weed legal or illegal right now the prices have been steady for years, i mean how long has a $10 bill meant .5 on the street, u dont see prices that steady in the real market, so legalizing would make the price drop imo and that would be bad for the black market growers, i mean who do u want growing your weed, the government or you? they already put all kinds of shit into our food, what do u think they'll put in our weed?
if it becomes legalized, billions and billions of dollars of our own tax free revenue will be taken over by the big man. decriminalization is where its at
Decrimilization is a half way house. There is no reason that full legalization could not be implemented properly. Yes the Government will likely tax and regulate the market: but I'd rather this than the current situation with the lack of regulation and the only tax being the black market one. I'd rather my 'tax' money went into the state than the pocket of a drug dealer. As for growing: why does everyone think that you will only be able to get low quality weed? This is obviously a fallacy. The markets will act as any market does and provide products for different price levels. Yes, we will probably see Marlboro enter the market with super low price weed, but then there will be growers who produce higher quality product, locally, for a higher price. Look at alcohol or tobacco. You can get Marlboro's or a 40 oz of Olde English but you can also get an $100 cigar or a bottle of Cristal. I personally would support local shops selling locally grown high quality weed and would be willing to pay more for it. As with home growing: it won't be illegal. You would just need a licence to sell it on instead of just for personal consumption. Same as with alcohol or tobacco production. Fact is most people would choose to buy it than grow it because of the ease.
^ ehh whatever we say and feel, half of americans still look at it like a hardcore drug and it will never be fully legal imo
You think the Governments Weed in the market would EVER be on top of the market? Like stated above, we are a communtiy and we would all wanna still smoke the dankest and weed that we feel is the safest and of good repute. edit:im just sayingthat i dont think that the Government would EVER be the top weed on the market
if it becomes legal u could grow your own or you could buy it from a store just like alcohol and tobacco both. you can grow your own tobacco or brew your own alcohol (of course only so much) but people choose not to b/c of the ease of just goin to the store and buyin a pack or pickin up a case. I would personally do both as in grow and buy from the store, just depends on the situation you are in.
And really, it must be easier to just buy alchohol than make it because of how involved the process is. And with the tobacco, the fact that the plant destroys the soil it's in can't make it easy to grow. Marijuana would be a lot easier to procure by personal means than the other two.
False. The majority of smokers would not grow their own. Some people don't have what it takes and others are just too lazy. We would be buying packs of factory rolled marijuana cigarettes for cheap.
Making alcohol is much easier than growing MJ. Therefore if we can learn anything from the alcohol market it's that most MJ when legalized will be bought and not grown. Just look at dispensaries; they sell much more bud than growing stuff.
But if you didn't have to hide what you were doing in the closet or with "contra" growing it wouldn't be so difficult to grow.
Agreed, growing would obviously become easier but alcohol is so easy to make yet people still choose to buy it. All it essentially involves is mixing a few ingredients together and allowing them time to ferment. Much easier than tending plants for months. The same thing would happen with weed. The ease of suppliers selling and consumers buying and the economies of scale created would make the price difference between growing yourself and buying MUCH smaller than it is now. Most people would buy it.
Um, have you ever brewed beer? It's not that easy, especially if you want it to not come out tasting like ass. About the easiest alcohol to make (aisde from a nice toilet wine) is mead which is fermented honey in water, but even that you have to let sit around for about a freakin year unless you really enjoy the taste of acetone. To make a good brew you really have to put some time and work into it. Like weed, you could go throw some seeds in your backyard and let and never come back till they are ready. sure, you would get some bud, but unless your yard is already the perfect growing environment, those buds will prolly suck. Or you could grow it indoors and give it lottsa love. Analogy: You could throw some fruit in a jar of water and hey, look, alcohol, but I wouldn't drink it. Or you could mix up the perfect wort and ferment it using the right equipment and sterile techniques and end up with a kick ass micro brew.
