Do I ph my water if I grow in soil?

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by Hayden2970, May 12, 2019.

  1. I've heard a few things recently. I use fox farm ocean forest soil and fox farm nutes. I know the nutes ph themselves if measured correctly. But what if I am just doing a plain water from sink? My water comes out at like 7.20. Should I ph it down a bit? People also said that soil regulates the ph itself so I was confused

    Thanks

  2. I would either adjust your tap water down to pH 6.5 or check the pH of your runoff and adjust accordingly.

  3. And curious of your opinion because I've heard a couple things on this too. Should my run off be what I put into it. Say I ph water at 6.5 and cones out at 5.5. Should I ph up? Or should I expect it to be about 1 lower because soil buffers it out.

  4. My solution is at pH 7.2 but the runoff is low, like 5.6. So yea, check your coco and adjust appropriately.

  5. I've been out of soil (hydro these days) for a while, but your runoff gives you an actual view into the root environment, so I believe you want to shoot at runoff of ~ pH 6.5-6.9. @HardDrive 's chart above is useful in understanding the relationship between pH and nute uptake.

  6. id be careful of using ph up and ph down products that are not natural products they destroy the beneficial bacteria in the soil and often cause more damage than not :)

  7. One can believe this, or not, but the premise that "not natural products" are generally "bad" or somehow "worse" has no scientific basis. Personally, I use Sulfuric Acid to lower pH and Potassium Hydroxide to raise it, primarily because it's a *LOT* cheaper and easier, and provides valuable, highly available nutrients (i.e. K+ and SO4--) that, just like "natural" products (whatever that means) have no effect on your soil bacteria if used in the correct manner.

  8. one can believe this too or not im sure not going to take your word for it when your on a forum asking quistions lol im sorry when a massive company like biobizz assure me of this very thing when i buy my soil from a extremely well known company and they assure me of these "bogus" claims where is your scientific evidence to prove it doesnt do any harm ill be waiting just here for you to rush round your arse to try and find some concrete evidence lol

  9. Is the aquarium ph up n down safe to use?

  10. So the evidence for your premise is that: "a massive company like biobizz assure me of this very thing". Yeah, I can't argue with that. Pretty conclusive compared to the millions of growers using "unnatural products" -- again, WTF does that mean? -- with no ill effects. Really?

    Good luck.

  11. and your scientific evidence is millions of growers use un natural products lmao yeh thats even more credible i stand corrected your right the evidence goes millions of growers use it all time lol again you cleared up this issue with that answer ??? really ???????

  12. Look I don’t know about all that now, I just wanna know if something is safe for animals is it safe to assume it’s safe for plants....

  13. i dont have a clue if it is safe to presume what your asking i aint a vet and i own no such animals and dont ever use what product your talking bout

  14. I appreciate it! Go get laid btw, you’re tense.

  16. I came with more questions, not answers or arguments, or know it all attitudes. I came to get help, I’m not sure if my post on this particular thread can accurately reflect that or not, idk. As for pride, we’ll I’ll ll leave pride for you to worry about. But in the meantime, I will definitely hope whatever’s plaguing you concedes, whatever’s ailing you improves. And whatever obstacles you may encounter prove weak when compared to your mighty resolve!

  18. Man, that’s all tall, vague order. Here’s what I can give you and anymore questions stemming from here a definitely welcome.
So far I’ve gotten 5 autos to flower which is probably mostly luck because I didn’t know they were autos. I was transplanting, LST’ing, topping, fiming, and attempting mainlines on them. And from that experience so far I can say both sides of the fence have valid points. You can definitely stunt your plants but you can also increase your yields (from the look of things) if you get all your heavy training done before the decide it’s time to flower. And if all my autos make it to harvest, I don’t see but one giving me less two ounces. That one I’m expecting 1.5+. The rest of them will do at least twice that. Even then I’m not certain it wasn’t genetics causing it to be shorter.
I’ve also gotten 8 photos into flower, 5 of which are small pots and are doing well so far. I had 10 small pots but decided to pot up 5 as they were suffering from various issues, but all but one have recovered. The exception is still growing strong and fast, but I think it’s going through lingering issues from under potting it. Currently waiting on the roots to expand into the fresh soil with hopes that it has enough nutrients to remedy its deficiencies (potassium- and nitrogen- I suspect). However with that one I’m thinking that the majority of the root mass, still surrounded by used up soil, is taking up most of the plants water intake which hasn’t been nutes because of the fresh soil added. Well growth is still vigorous, but she’s still not a healthy shade of green. So I’ve decided to water around a wide area and feed at the base of the plant with a cup or so of food in an attempt to remedy her.
What I’m really good at is LST. Everything gets tied down! I think that’s what I’ll owe the success of these autos too. Great spreading! However I have yet to harvest a single bud so we’ll see I’m sure!
All in all, I didn’t know you were green. The best advice I can give you is try everything! Don’t take one persons account of things as the gospel. This forum is full of growers that seem to go straight from beginners to seasoned pros overnight! Watch those folks. Flying from post to post spreading misinformation, outdated, unpractical methodology, all sorts of fuckery. Or perhaps not, perhaps it’s just their way of doing things. Who knows?! I know I’ve interacted with a few unorthodox growers, that have given me unpractical advice that has worked well. So I’ll not judge, except from experience. That’s the key right. Get some more plants under your belt, and you’ll progress and your inexperience will be a distant memory soon enough!
Like I said earlier, the invitation is open. Any questions, or advice you may need, lmk. Check out my journal for specifics, or my pic thread for ocular enjoyment!
Good luck with your grow though!
