Do I need an INKBIRD humidity controller, if I have a PRROGRAMMABLE humidifer?

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by krizanova, Apr 1, 2022.

  1. Hi guys, noob here, so apologies if I asked a stupid question.

    I have a:

3x3 tent.,A infinity s6+ 67 controller, arbon filter, Kingbrite 240w lights, 3 small pc fans and 1 oscilating fans

All the stats (cfm, lumens per square feet) are more or less OK, my only question is the one I mentioned in the title.

I also have a PROGRAMMABLE humidifier (not a popular model, not much info online, it did cost me 90 usd.)

    So my question is:

If I can set my humidifer to any value I need (it goes from 10-80 I think), WHY would I need an inkbird humidity controller?

How would and inkbird benefit me, If I can just set the humidifier to different humidity levels during different vegetation stages?

AM I am missing something or is inkbird humidity controller ONLY needed when you have a more basic humidifer, where you cannot set a precise humidity level that you want?

    Thanks!!!

  2. Can put a controller on your controller so you can control your controller, even more control.

Seriously, no you dont need a controller if there is one built into the humidifier.

  3. u don't need an external controller if you have one already in the device.

  4. Could buy another humidifer and put the controller on that? Two is better than one. Than you could put a dehumidifier on a controller for ultimate control. Controlllllll

  5. Thanks.
Some other commenter said this - "with your humidifier you will only be able to tell it what you want the humidify at. once it reaches that it will kick off. if the humidity raises your humidifier will do nothing. the inkbird will kick on your dehumidifer. I wouldn't use a programmable humidifier along with a different sensor for the dehumidifier, because say you have hu and dehumidifier connected to inkbird. that will use inkbird humidity sensor to kick each one on or off. if you used programmable humidifier (has its own sensor so it can kick off obv) along with inkbird and dehumidifier, those diff sensors could produce diff readings and could be fighting each other the entire time. make sense? "

So basically makes me think that I am better off with cheaper humidifer + dehumidifer + inkbird.

Or I can someho deactivate the "smart" functions on my already bought humidifer, so that there isnt a fight between the two sensors

  6. I was kidding about the dehumidifier. Probably best of not running either, but a small humidifier never hurts.

  7. How big are the plants now and what is humidity like? I found when I was first getting plants going, there wasn't enough plant or soil to keep the tent humid with the lights running, but with lights off humidity was pretty decent.

I used a small humidifier for a little while, but once the plants got to a certain size, and I had them in larger pots, the tent was able to maintain good humidity with the lights on, and I had it coming up to the sweet spot with lights off.

Small tents really hold humidity once the plants start growing, I'm in a 3x2, and now that I'm in early flower, there's no room for anything in the tent, and humidity creeps a little high with lights off.

  8. You'll still want some kind of prob at canopy level or hang a temp. Humidity reader at plant canopy. It's often a completely different humidity reading at plant canopy away from humidifier. Not that humidity really matters after germination excessive humidity matters low humidity not so much

  9. I am a first time grower, planning to start in a about a week.

I just wanted to make the growing process as automated as possible (its not gonna LST itself, of course),thats why I anted a humidfer/inkbird/dehum combo.

No you are making me wonder If I really need all those 3 or just a humidifier. I live in Northwestern Europe, air humidity is "average"

  10. I would slow down on buying a bunch of stuff and start the grow first, find out what you need and don't need. Easy way to avoid spending a TON of money.

  12. Sine I am a noob, I just want to have every equoment that may be needed near me, so I can react fastly to crisis :D

I see that your gate is under attack, 10 hours have passed, they might not be even there. Those poor soldiers....

“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

  13. Humidity is nowhere near as important as people make it out to be. Mine fluctuates from 20% to 70% and I have zero issues. I will run a dehumidifier if it gets over 70% but that's very rare.

  14. Thanks everybody for commenting.
Since I am a noob, this information overload (temps, humidity, ec/ph messures, VPD chart, Lsts, atering, nutrientsetc etc) stressed me out a bit.

Now my mind is more at piece, haha - thanks, great community.
