Do I need a pH meter?

    The question is in the title. Is it necessary? Would my nutes and tap water throw off the soil's pH?

    Yes unless you grow with a living soil

    Lot of people use the el cheapo one I tried that and it sucked bought a blue lab pen and it's really nice

    I found one for $20 that has +/-.05 accuracy with plenty of reviews to back it up.
    I'm trying to keep the expenses down

    ...still have yet to use a ph meter

    YES...you need a PH pen. FWIW Fox Farm OF and Happy Frog is some of the worse soil going right now due to massive PH issues....BEWARE!

    I used litmus paper and figured out my tap is at a 9. A little too high
