hey hey... i've got most of my equipment and supplys together for my first grow, although the only lighting i have is a 400w hps. im starting from seeds and will be cloning later on. is it compulsory that i must use a flouro? is it possible to use just the one light (400w hps). ive read that the newly sprouted plants are supposed to be grown at first under flouros but thats just one more thing i'll need to spend money on. please reply back with your answers or ideas... thanks... - siberwayste
i suggest u do use a flouro... seedling are more toward to get burn with a hps. especily a 400watts one.... also the flouro, u can just keep it inches away from the seedlings....
i use a 400hps for seeds just make sure you don't have it too close i start 30 inch's away then lower it 1 inch per day
I'd have to agree with 420 on this one. Flo's almost guarentee that you will not fry the plants you paid money for. Plus the electric bill will be a little more forgiving. as well. tc gm714
cheers u guys. its u that makes this place so helpful steve, has using the 400w hps always succeded? i reali dont want to mess up u see, i only have ten seeds. as for the flouros, what kind of intensity will i need? (as in watts), and is it ever possible to place them 'too close' to the plants? thanks - siberwayste
Flo's will burn a plant. The ends of the tubes get hot enough to do so. I use the round type found at Walmart. They are about 40w and generate very little heat. A plant grows best when it is expose to around 5000 lumes. It would be easy to get that many with these lamps. Three I think. gm714
this bulb is realy good for veg http://www.lighting.philips.com/nam/products/hid/p2707b.php as it ses just use the hps ballest....laters
alot of people use the flouros i got them too just don't think they work any better than my hps it's all down to personal choice as for your seeds i tend to get 9 out of ten so it works for me
cheers guys... i think i'll buy a couple of 40w flos n then just experiment over time, i already have my 400w hps, n hopefully getting a MH bulb to fit it too... cheers.. - siberwayste
