DNA Sexing

  1. Just a crazy idea/question...

I'm not a biologist by any stretch of the imagination, but I read and can find companies that offer DNA sexing of small animals such as birds. This led me to think, surely there must be a difference in the genetic or chemical makeup of a male and female plant, even in the early growth stages. Why has no chemical test kit been made? Or, does a plant only get a sex once it enters the flowering stage?

    Thanks!

  2. Sorry, Can't be done yet. I am not a biologist either but I took the class. There is no way of sexing the DNA of a seed or any plant that I know of. Maybe someday the geeks will figure out how to do it but until then we will just have to wait till the pre-flowers form.
