My friend gave me an led light from his DJ equipment, and ive been using it for my clones. its pretty bright and it has 8 red 8 blue and 8 green lights which are fairly large leds and looks like they have built in reflectors around each one. so my question is... couldn't I just buy a used Dj light with a lot of leds on it for half the price as a ufo or any other "grow led"? Isnt it the same thing just alot cheaper cuz its not labeled for "growing"? Im new to this led thing cuz I rock the MH/HPS, but wanna try something new, can anyone give me some input here. and did I just discover a led break through that's gonna put "grow leds" outta business on their humongous marked up lights.
It might work and since you got one for free give it a try. Keep in mind that the name brand lights put a lot of time and money into perfecting their lights. With this I would find it diff to believe that a DJ light would/could do the same thing.
a red led is a red led, as well as a blue one. i mean i found a Ultra bright Punch Panel with 252 10mm LEDs (81 Red, 81 Green, & 90 Blue LEDs) for $186.00. This has gottta work i dont see why not its still a red and blue led. and the price compared to ufos and such is a steal.. my other question is how i read that they do well for veg hence them working for my clones but how about for flowering?? and if i buy 2 of these for still less then a ufo/such put them side by side that doubles the lights which have to be amazing.
That statement would be very untrue. That would be saying a light is a light. Try growing with a Halogen bulb. Its bright right? It emits lots of light right? Using that rationale we all would just grow with the Tube lights in the ceiling. T8s T10s there dirt cheap because every office on Earth uses them but in actuality they make very poor lights. Its why T5s are used If it was different like I said office tubes are so cheap you can probably get them for free from work and the ballasts are so cheap just hit up a surplus store there everywhere. Yet no one uses them. They make LEDs that give off more precise spectrum for plants and usually the better LEDs are exactly that. 1st Gen UFOs when they came out were packed with Traffic Light LEDs and the grows were so shitty to this day LED makers are still trying to forget that period of there lives. Sales of LEDs have actually never taken off from that because of those first wave of lights. If its cheap though try it. Why not? Semper Fi Devil (Marine for 10 years)
