I was wondering if you could make a quick compost tea by adding all sorts of garden leaves + ground coffee beans + maise + wheat + vegetables to water, leave them 3-4 days in a warm environment and make a quick compost tea. They seem to leach something in the water. Is that good for the weed ? also what plants should i use ?
Search for "dynamic accumulators" in the organics section. They are plants which have deep tap roots that essentially mine and accumulate elements. You use them in a similar fashion to what your describing. Also search "aact" or actively aerated compost tea in the organics section.
you should post this in the organics section, there's alot of educated folk on this topic. But you would want to actually compost that material for a couple weeks. That decomposed material is then brewed orbubbled in water for 12-24 hrs and then fed to plants. Read the stickies in the organic section, well worth the time.
thing of it is, compost already has the microbes that are the point of making an AACT tea in the first place. I don't think any of that material has the microbes you're looking for. Small bag of wormcastings and molasses are all you need, you don't even need an airpump if you use Microbeman's stick and bucket method.
I was looking for a fast, home made, liquid fertilizer to replace those chemicals i add in the soil. I left once some leaves into the water and the water became colored and the leaves partially decomposed. That made me think i could just gather stuff with nutrients, add some sugar to feed the bacteria that decomposte stuff and wait a week and see water my plant with that. Now that i've read abut aact and compost tea, im not sure that my idea is any good. . I dont really want to spend too much because i've already bought chemical ferts and i'm not that rich XD. sorry for being king noob, first of my name, protector of the realm. The fertilized soup i made: ground coffee beans, maize, grated carrot, cucumber, some white carrot thing i found in the fridge(dunno name in english), spearmint leaves and i wanted to add some nettle too... Oh, and 2 spoons of sugar. All this with 2 litres of H2O.
No problem brother, took me 3 years to accumulate the things I have. I'm all about stretching my dollars which is one of the reasons I went organic. Nutrients can be extracted in such a manner, some guys use comfrey and kelp. I don't know about just adding kitchen scraps to water though, might be harmless but I just don't know. Sounds like an interesting experiment though. I'm doing an experiment with my current grow, I'm going to try to go from seed to harvest with nothing but water and bacteria teas, adding zero nutrients beyond my initial soil mix. I've read that by using the right organics your nutrients can last for a few years (called no-till gardening), you just need to make sure that the soil is full of microbes to break them down. Letting your pot get too dry, using chemical salts, not enough aeration amendment, all these things can lead to a reduced population of microbes in your soil and thus appear to "run out" of organic nutes when in fact, it just ran out of microbes to break them down. Like I said though, my current grow is an experiment to see if that works for me. I'm all about stretching my dollars, that's why I went organic. I see the best growers here getting huge yields while spending next to nothing on nutes. Looking forward to your next journal update!! Cheers!!
Well then, i think i'll try the kitchen scraps thing on one of plants too and i'll feed the others normally. It will be my little experiment ^^ . I shall keep you guys informed .
