Distilled water vs. Tap water

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by High as Space, Jan 29, 2011.

  1. not sure where i should post this but...
ive been using my tap water and letting it sit out for at least 24 hrs so far in my grow. (5 gal buckets with FFOF) however, im concerned that if i flush with 15 gal/pot with tap water, the minerals and impurities will leave a bad taste in the bud. would it be worth it to purchase distilled water to have the best tasting bud or is tap water just as good? my tap is safe to drink and comes out at about 6.8 pH.

  2. Distiller water is pretty cheap. I can get it for just over a dollar a gallon at the local grocery store. Why take the chance if you're worried if it is that cheap?

  3. If you can drink it and not taste anything, you won't taste anything in the buds either.

  4. exactly what he said

  5. Filter your tap water to be sure of no worries.

  6. yeah walmart has a gallon of distilled for like .80 cents... but i have 3 plants that i need 15 gallons for... i know letting your tap sit out can help the chlorine get out, but it still may not be as good as distilled. buying all that water would be costly and awkward.

  7. Your tap water should be fine.

Filter it like TB says if it will help you sleep better.:D

Let's see, $12 for 15 gal of distilled vs ~$0.02 for 15 gal of tap.

If you happened to miss school that day ........

    Wet

  8. I understand how math works and it would cost me like 40 bucks to buy that much.

  9. Your tap water is fine. actually probably better than distilled or R.O. With these waters minerals have been removed. You need to add cal-mag back into the water before use.
If it is drinkable and with a 6.8 ph should be ideal.

  10. What about tap water through a Pur filter? Ive been watering with that, I just let the water sit out to get room temperature.

  11. Filtered tap is fine...................be sure to check your ph.

  12. or if you were ever going to go hydro and you have the money get a RO system it will pay off its self saving you from having to go buy water. but then again that is a bit more of a pricier route

  13. Is an RO like a reservoir with a water/air pump in it oxygenizing it?

  14. Not true. Ever tried boiling down your tap water, to check out the salty dry residue that's left in the bottom of the boiling pot

You don't want that in your bud. If you can't use clean fresh water the entire way through, at least use distilled, RO, or the best water available, for the finishing/end flush.

  15. its a 3 to 5 stage system that goes through filters that removes 98% of contaminates. search how does a 5 stage reverse osmosis system work on google if you want a more technical answer.

  16. Thank you!

  17. That's what I'm sayin... my tap is well water by the way. I've been using it so far and I'm like 2 - 3 weeks away from the final flush. Using FFOF...

  18. you could always think of it this way. have you even bought some bud and when you smoked it be like hmmmmm this bud taste like calcium the grower must not have the best water lol. i wouldnt worry about the tap water if you really think it will make a difference then just buy some water if you can justify the cost

  19. This. Other than leaving it out for a day to let the chlorine evaporate, I wouldn't worry about it either, but do whatever makes you feel better. The taste of your buds will be MUCH more effected by your drying/curing technique than it will ever be by what kind of water you choose to flush with.

  20. Yes, absolutely, which is why I haven't smoked commercial or anything less than quality medicine, in over ten years. You notice these things very easily and can even determine what the grower did wrong, once you gain experience in growing and processing cannabis properly.

The more impure your water is, the more impure your bud will be.
