[Discussion] Possible Reasons For High Alkaline Runoff Water

  1. Hi, I have a plant sitting in a one gallon pot with a mixture of 50% of Foxfarm Ocean Forest and 50% of perlite. After my plant showed sign of slow growth, I tested the PH of the runoff water by flushing the pot with one gallon of water at PH level of 6.2. The result is that the runoff water is at a PH level of 8.5. Then I use additional one gallon of water at PH of 4.5 and the runoff water turns out at a PH level of 8.3.

There is so far no fertilizer being used for this plant except 1/4 of tea spoon of organic "bone meal" added yesterday (while the plant has shown slow growth for 9 days now).

What are the possible reasons for high alkaline runoff water? Could it be some type of fungi that alters the PH of the soil?
