that shit has to be a set up.i mean, everybody every at work is like, "oh,u dont have direct deposit"?. looking all startled. then the lead manager says if I dont get direct deposit, then he's gonna hold my check. im thinking, is my this company in cahoots with these banks to get my $? can he legally do this?
no he can't not pay you, he has to legally give you the checks. Tell him you prefer to cash your checks and not use a bank account due to personal reasons.
Hold the bus it may be legal. One reference found; Quote - Unfortunately, it is not illegal; companies have a right to pay their employees using any system they like--checks, direct deposit, pay card, even (not that any one does it anymore) cash. The only requirements are related to bookkeeping and taxes: track all hours for nonexempt staff, pay for all hours (including overtime), properly withhold for FICA and income tax, as well as for any benefits, and properly report all withholding to the government and the employee as required by law. -End Quote Check with your HR department or Employee handbook.
call the person with the highest authority int he company and talk to him about it i guess. seems weird they would almost try and force you to get direct deposit. with my job its like a privilege, you must work there for a certon amount of time (i think 90 days) before they offer you direct deposit.
Talk to the HR dept. and quit acting like everyone is out to get you. It's not a big conspiracy you paranoid stoner.
this is kinda what my work did to me a while back, they got rid of paper checks, so it was one of 2 choices either you get direct deposit, or you get a debit card that takes a small amount of your check away every time u have to take out money, its FUCKING retarded so yeah now everyone at my job has DD...its nice tho
well I run a business and i can give you some clarity on this subject. If I pay an employee with direct deposit the money is in employees acct within 2 days. If I have to get checks for an employee it takes extra time to get the checks printed and mailed, etc. So when I tell an employee that there check is being "held" I am simply stating that you dont get paid at the end of the week, you get paid at the end of next week. When an employee stops working they then recieve there last paycheck a week after they stop working. I hope this clarifies things for you. I know when I was an employee at other companies this was the same process. now that i am running my own company I see exactly why they did it this way. although this can get deep with larger companies, mine has under 5 employees. Any more than 5 and were assking for trouble. They make it so hard to expand business in the States without getting fucked over somehow
It's just easier imo...saves paper and all that shit, and time for you bc it's right there in your account already & you don't have to wait for the bank to process it. I didn't have DD until after I already had my first paycheck, and it took them like 3 days to deposit my paycheck at the bank, and I get my paychecks first thing in the morning already now. Idk how business process all that shit but it seems just easier for everyone
I dont think he can hold your check but you should feel lucky to have that option. I have to wait for my paper check on fridays. It would be way less driving for me.
As usual the Bladies come in with the practical siide of it rather than the technical, gotta love it. (If I did likes, you both would get one).
