Different Phases of Growing

  1. I just started my first grow today (put germinated seeds in ground), and I'm wondering how to organize my grow journal.

Obviously there are the phases of germination, vegetation, and flowering, but when do I differentiate between germination and vegetation?

Does the vegetation stage begin when I see the first sprout above the soil? So even though I put in the seeds today it's still germination?

Also, when do you guys estimate I'll start seeing the sex of the plant, that's when I can officially call my plants in the flowering stage, right? Is late July or early August a good estimate for that?

    Thanks!

  2. well the exact timing of when you would consider the plant to be in that stage is sorta not a big deal.

like i personally would consider veging after your first 3 finger leaves come in. and of course flowering is when they show sex.

yea thats a good estimate for when they will start to flower.

  3. So a MJ plant goes through 2 cycles, some say that the first 2 weeks of the sprout life count as 1 cycle. I just say its vegging which is true. I would say its germing all the way till the sprout breaks soil then its vegging.

You'll see signs of preflowers at about 6 to 8 weeks. You can always force them to show sex by flowering them, giving them 12/12. When you see preflowers it doesn't mean its flowering. TO flower you have to give them 12 hours of light and 12 hours on uninterputed darkness.

  4. This is an outdoors, low maintenance grow. So I'm mainly interested in when I can determine the sex of the plant by preflowers, because then I can get my male-destruction done and just change the watering regime nutes to those appropriate for flowering, right?

  5. Changing the watering regime and nutes won't make it flower. Only 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness can do that.
