Did weed change your music tastes?

  1. I know it did for me... big time. I used to be exclusively into "extreme metal" (i.e. very agressive, super distorted, growls etc.), and looked down on everything else. Once I started smoking weed, it totally shifted my perspective. First I lost this stupid ass arrogant attitude that was keeping me from exploring a lot of music because it was more popular . I also began to appreciate beat-driven music way way more, and have gotten obsessively into electronica. I'm even starting to listen to some rap/hip-hop... really digging Cypress Hill these days.

Also gotten way more into just plain chill music like Oasis, Radiohead, Coldplay etc.

I still like metal of course, but it's not all I like anymore :).

  2. Yes it did. I went from dumbass gangsta rap to rock, techno, trance and reggae xD.

EDIT: And of course a little rap here and there

  3. Nope.
Weed hasn't really changed my opinions on anything other than weed itself.
But its nice to hear that you're branching out and exploring different genres.
I wish my friends and people in general did that more often.
You're never gonna find what you REALLY love unless you leave your comfort zone.

  4. hell yea.
before i never really cared for bob marley, but now i think hes the fuckin shit.
started listening to Sublime, 311, Slightly Stoopid, Cypress Hill, Kottonmouth Kings, and shit like that.

it really helped me appreciate regea, along with the 'stoner-rock' bands like 311.

  5. Weed opened my mind in general.

  6. For real man.

  7. I agree with most of the above posters. I have also gained a greater appreciation for reggae, techno, and classic rock. Although, honestly, I'm not sure if that that is because of smoking pot or because of the cool stoners I've met since I started smoking pot.

  8. truth

  9. I couldn't have said it better myself. +rep

  10. I'm not about to sound like an ass but I already had pretty good taste in music overall, all weed did for me was make me appreciate new aspects of that music.

Well, weed did get me more interested in electronic, dubstep, trance, etc.
So it did open my mind to a certain extent.

  11. Weed got me into listening to everything!

  12. weed didn't change my music taste. i still love classical, 30's jazz, rap.. etc but i would say it enhanced my listenening and interpretation of some genres of music. ^.^

  13. It helped me branch out my musical tastes in some ways yeah. First into some classic rock, but that shit can get kind of depressing and boring for me after a while. Also it got me lookin into some trance, jazz, classical and hip hop.

  14. i sometimes like different music better/worse when i'm high, but other than that, nope. my taste has gradually changed over the years, but i don't think weed really effected it too much.

  15. Not really. I may get more annoyed by shitty music when I'm high but that's about it.

  16. Yes, and no.

  17. nope, i just love everything that i love even more when im high... if thats possible.

  18. weed changed my taste in music, movies, etc. i only like what's authentic now, not what's fake/commercialized. like real music, and a film that's really, really good.

  19. I'm gonna go ahead and change the answer I had a year ago. Personally I believe that smoking weed had a pretty distinct effect upon the way that I heard music and ultimately helped my tastes develop to a much deeper level. It didn't happen immediately and wasn't totally the "weed in my brain" but it was the way that smoking cannabis altered or augmented my thought patterns and the way that I heard music and thought about it in general. I've gone from Metallica being my favorite band to not having a favorite band and listening to things that noone has ever heard of and some wouldn't even consider music along with multiple other kinds of music. My philosophy of music has changed for the better. Music is music to me now... there are only two kinds: good music and a poor excuse for music.

  20. Weed started it and other experiments blew it wide open.
