Did marijuana affect your studies at school/class?

  1. So my fellow GC tokers, something came into my head today. And of course many of us heard the typical pot propaganda from the Gov, and how much it's bullsh*t, but one of the subjects i was interested in, did pot ever affect your studies or work when you were in your college or high school career? For me, no. I did not smoke MJ daily back in high school. I probably smoked either once a week or less to reduce stress levels, and this would be once every weekend, when I knew that I free time. Over all, as for remembering, I don't believe it affected me significantly. I mean, I could remember things quite well if I learned it properly or had it in mind.
So has or did pot ever affect your studying? Did you ever notice any short term problems?
Also another personal question, to this day, i still do not smoke pot daily. But every time i do smoke, i feel like a dumbass after words. I dont know how to get over it. Any help?

  2. Yes, it affected my grades in a major way. In high school, I went from a 3.2GPA(freshman-junior year, didnt smoke every day) to a 4.0GPA (smoked every day) and in my first semester of college I accomplished a 3.4GPA. All while smoking every day. :smoke:

  3. some folks claim marijuana lessens their depression, so I can see how that would increase academic performance.

personally though I have trouble smoking in moderation, and therefore am often blazed in class, which fucks with my memory, which fucks with my grades.

long story short: being stoned all the time hurts grades. at least with this so-cal retard weed, it's powerful stuff. As for moderation, I wish I could tell ya, but I've never tried it.

  4. Not at all.

I mean, if I had shown up to school blazed all the time, I think it would have. But I would rarely ever attend class while inebriated, and I never did it enough that it became a problem. I would work my ass off when I got home, then fire up a bowl and "turn off" for the day. That's really the only way I could do so well without getting frustrated with the amount of work and opting instead to just be an average student.

Now, I'm in all advanced classes in my senior year of high school and headed to a Top 100 university in the US next year (not going to give any names though).

  5. In high school I didn't smoke as much but more than the regular citizen and averaged around 3.7 GPA. I'm in college now and smoke quite often, current average is 3.8. Last spring semester, I had some of the hardest GE classes (biology, calculus, etc.) and pulled a 4.0. I smoked almost every night. So yes, it affected my grades. I would use weed as a treat for myself after I finished my homework. :D

  6. for math it made it hell and maybe some other subjects. then again once they started putting mixing letters and numbers togethor it went downhill from there..

  7. It helped me with calculus because I didn't question the steps as much I just said fuck it I'm doing it this way... everything else it did not assist with. I don't smoke during the semester.

  8. i had to learn the hard way that for me weed and school dont go together at all

if i come home and smoke i tell myself ill do my homework later and it never gets done. so i just do my homework right when i get home and smoke after so i can just chill

weed just doesnt complement studying or doing school work for me

  9. I would say smoking weed never really affected my grades, and I blaze almost every day.

However, I was always an average/sometimes below-average student who hated school from day #1, so I got a lot of shit from people saying that I was a dumb stoner who'll end up on the streets. Its not that weed made me dumb in school; I've always been that way 8)

  10. Personally, I think marijuana increases my academic performance. It helps me focus (especially on assignments that I wouldn't want to do otherwise), enhances my creativity, and helps me to think more deeply/clearly.

  11. Weed has affected my academic performance negatively, but not negatively enough for me to stop. I know weed has gotten in the way of my school work before, so I think I'd probably have about a 3.8 GPA instead of the 3.7 that I'm carrying now. Oh well. It'll still get me into law school :p

  12. No but I only got my grade 8.

Adderal is what brought me down. The school said I would be suspended if I didnt take a shit ton of it everyday for adhd (aka bullshit). The meds made me super depressed. I had to take them everyday for like 2 years so I just dropped out on my own and stop caring about school.

Think weed helped me. I always was able to study better and not be so depressed after a bowl.

  13. I started in 7th grade. My pattern of grades went something like this:

    7th: B student.
    8th: B+ student.
    9th: 3.34
    10th: 3.67
    11th: 4.18
12th: Straight A's so far, but my GPA can't be calculated because the year's not over.

I took a real dip Freshman year. I was smoking a lot and didn't give a fuck about school. I don't know if I was smoking because I didn't give a fuck, or if I didn't give a fuck because I was smoking, but I knew it had to stop. In 10th grade, I went through an "experimental" period where I got addicted to harder drugs. Junior year I got my shit together. I don't do anything but weed now (not even alcohol) and I keep straight A's.

  14. yea i went to my math final baked and got 27.5%

  15. When I smoke too much during school I get lazy and my ambition levels lower. When I smoke occasionally during school(as rewards after major exams/research papers) I increases my performance and raises my ambition.

  16. This is over a year but w.e fuck it. I started smoking freshman year in high school, but didnt start to do it regularly till my senior year, nd then i was only doing it like twice a week. Did not affect my grades at all. At college though i started toking daily, but only once im down with all my shit. Weed deff helps write essays and shit, some of the best shit iv written has been while stoned

I did my best writing stoned:smoke: - and cleaned up the spelling and grammar errors later. :) Stoned math is a disaster for me, so I do the math, and then reward myself afterwards.

Cannabis is a "mind lubricant". Ideas slip and slide into new configurations. One of my teachers said I had "novel takes on tired old ideas" and that she saved my papers for "dessert" when correcting. So for me, getting stoned was a plus!

For studying, I found this worked for me

Skim through the text, read any sentence with bold or italics. Look at the pictures and read the captions.

    Get mildly stoned.:smoke:

Start reading and take a LOT of notes as you read.

When you are done, put everything aside and go have some fun while you are still stoned. :D

Come back later and read the text sober, but with those stoned notes. You will find some little gems of though among your notes.

I got an excellent grade on a paper about how vanity, silk ribbons and metal thimbles brought down the Cherokee nation and crashed the eastern coast's ecosystem! Pure stoned thinking!

(The gals used the thimbles as bells on their dresses and silk ribbons were colorful. It was a total fashion fad. The thimbles and ribbons (and whiskey) were bought with deer hides. Dudes found the gals would do anything for the "bling" items. (premarital sex was not looked down on in the Cherokee tribes, which is why so many of you are part Cherokee). Hunting increased dramatically, upsetting tribal social patterns and the ecology.)

    Granny

  18. The only affect it has had was a positive one. After I started smoking, my classes became more interesting to me and I saw the value of effort in the classroom.

  19. My first year in college I smoked weed almost everyday, and I was still able to get everything done. I mean it probably did affect my studying since instead of getting high I could have been getting work done. But I still did pretty well.

  20. I was already pretty apathetic about school before I started smoking. After I started smoking my grades and attendance definitely dropped more. I don't blame weed though. I blame myself for not having my priorities in order.
