Did I get 'grit weed'?

Hi folks, first of all let me start by saying I'm no apprentice smoker, (so no remarks on this thread ). The other day I picked up a half ounce from someone new and it looks and smells really good. When burnt though, the ash is really hard, to the point that you need to break it off the end of the joint, and poke it out of the bowl in a bong. I also noticed that the ash is black and not white/grey. The most striking thing about this weed though, is if you take the ash in your fingers and rub it, the ash turns into a slick oily substance in your fingers. I examined the buds with a little field microscope thing (only 10x) and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Even the taste of the bud does not taste out of the ordinary. What do you think this is? It's really starting to bug me out. :(

BTW I don't have a camera at the moment so no pictures unfortuneatley.

    Thanks in advance! :D

***EDIT - Please read my second-to-last post for more info about this. If you get it, DON'T SMOKE IT!***

"OK thanks everyone for your input. I just did a test on this weed (without being stoned this time) . I took a small bud and put a lighter to it. Immediately, it started to burn, and it fizzled as it burned. Once it had stopped, I put the ash in between my two fingers and rubbed them together. Almost immediately, the ash turned into an oily substance and this does not smell like ash should. (It had a very, very, mild, chemical, waxy smell.)
I'm glad that I never smoked much of this, but instead of throwing it all away now, I have just stared to water cure the buds. After 5 - 7 days of water curing, I will test it again and see if I still get this problem.

This is particularly worrying bacuase of the fact that there are no visible or olfactory sign of contamination (aside from the smoke smelling a little 'off', but hardly noticeable). I will post a result of the water cure once the water turns clear (est. 5 - 7 days).

Once again, thanks for you input everyone, and if you happen to aquire weed that sounds similar to this DON'T smoke it. Chuck it away, or try water curing it (if my cure solves the problem.) It looks like 'grit' weed is getting more organised and specialised than ever. They have moved on from easily spotted glass and sand, and now are using something that is almost undetectable. All I know is, it had me, and countless others fooled; and judging by the shit left on my fingers, that is NOT going to be good for you, or your lungs."

  2. What did they high from the weed feel like?

  3. Just because you SAY you're not an apprentice, doesn't make it so.

Seasoned tokers know what grit weed looks and tastes like and don't ask about it

  4. Actually, (if you read my post) you would have noticed that I checked the weed through a microscope, and smelled/tasted it and it showed no sign of being contaminated. It looks completely normal, aside from the fact that it crackles slightly when burning and it produces hard, (and then oily) ash.

Why should asking for opinions make me less of a seasoned toker?

  5. Felt like a fairly strong indica, just like I expected judging by the bud formation/smell.

  6. No pics, just your commentary - and come on, if you're seasoned you should bloody well KNOW better by now. THAT'S WHAT BEING SEASONED IS ALL ABOUT.

Any joe schmoe can look through a microscope, whoop-de-doo. I can find macros of MJ online all day long. Doesn't matter if you don't know what you're looking at.

  7. sounds like it is pretty legit. Id say it is just some dank buds but id. try rubbing a piece of weed against a cd and see if it scratches it. stuff like that to see if its grit

  8. NOW it's in the right forum - carry on.

I'm very sorry if I have never experienced contaminated weed before. I also apologise if that makes me inexperienced. I have just googled this 'oily ash' and this is what someone else has said about it.

"No mate its not glass shit, as I say, there were no signs of contamination. No grit, no sugar, no glass not even a strange taste when I tried eating a small piece. The only signs were the chest pains and the strange behavior of the ash."

This is exactly the same for me, minus the chest pain. I'm not really sure why you are trying to argue with me, I have been smoking for many years now, I don't need some guy on the internet telling me that I'm a noob (no offence intended), when I'm trying to ask a serious question because I fear for my health.

Now let me reiterate what I'm trying to say for those that don't understand. There is NO visible sign of contamination. All that is visible are trichromes. No glass, no beads. Nothing. The ONLY signs of contamination is the hard, oily ash. I'm truly sorry if I sound pissed, but I've just picked up a half-o of this, and now some guy is trying to convince me that I don't know shit.
    Thanks again for your understanding.

  10. My issue with you was resolved, you posted this in Seasoned Tokers, a Seasoned Toker would know what they were buying, plain and simple. Now that it's moved to apprentice, it's all good.

OBVIOUSLY the mods agreed with me, they moved it before I even reported it.

Don't get your panties all in a wad because you bought bad shit. Part of being seasoned is getting burned when you're not.

  11. If you think its grits, shake some of the "glass" bits into a bowl. Torch the bowl with a lighter for a bit. Glass will be unaffected, kief will be.

  12. You really need to chill out man.

  13. You're sure it is mold free?

The only reason this was moved is because of the title. I think 'contaminated' is a better word. Now, seeing as you are so seasoned, could you give me your opinion on what this is. Obviously without pictures this is hard, but I'll try to describe it for you.

    - No visible contamination: Close inspection reveals that only trichromes are visible. There are no glass beads, sand, sugar, quartz... nothing.
    - Smell is not out of the ordinary: Obviously, smell changes from strain to strain, so there is no 'normal' smell.
    - Sparkles slightly when burned.
    - Very hard ash produced
    - Ash turns into a waterey/oily substance when rubbed
    - No sore throat/chest pain experienced (yet) lol

Please, I didn't come on here for a fight. I love GC, but recently some people (I name no names) have started giving off really bad vibes. GC shouldn't be like this. I admit I have sounded like a dick head as well and I am sorry, but I am asking a serious question and so far I have yet to even be given an opinion.

  16. Yeah, I checked for mould and I'm almost certain it is mould free. But thanks anyway. :D

  17. Sounds more like it was sprayed with something rather than gritted. Either (hopefully) to add weight or to produce some other effect.

  18. Yeah this is more what I was thinking. I think 'grit' was the wrong word to use. I just can't understand how it is only detectable after burning

  19. Fuck if i know, good luck though.

  20. Thanks man
