Did I buy the wrong potting soil?

  1. Hello everyone, first time grower here.I took a gamble and bought a bag of organic potting soil from my local hydroponic store. I've sifted through many forums and watched many videos for helping first time growers and was going to buy Fox Farm. The store i went to didn't have it, but they did have an organic potting soil that I initially thought would be everything i was hoping for. After getting home and reading the bag more, I started to wonder if i messed up. I looked up the soil online, but not much came up. Is the soil good to use for MJ or not?

  2. Hi! It sounds like its just a base soil mix as there's no fertilizer listed. if i were to list the ingredients of a decent bagged soil it would go like this: sphagnum peat moss, compost or EWC, perlite/pumice, lime, gypsum, rock minerals, kelp, crab, neem, alfalfa.

i prefer a peat moss base soil myself as i tend to have fertilizer problems when i add coir. some people don't have this issue but its something to consider.

  3. Yep that is just base soil and will need to be amended to grow cannabis in. I also agree that coir might not be the best component so you might consider making your own organic soil instead following a recipe. check these threads out with more info:

  4. Thanks for the help! I will definitely be making some changes.

  5. Native Recycled Trees and Shrubs.
They take what would be decent base for soil. Then cut it with 50% recycled storm mulch.
