Hey GC, I need to get a dehumidifier due to my RH getting above 60%. I was wondering if there's a general rule of thumb or measuring stick on selecting a dehumidifier per the size of the room it's needed for? Am I looking at how big the reservoir is? The room is 1000 cu. ft., if that matters. Anyone with knowledge and experience with using and how to select one, please give guidance. Thanks.
you might want to get a seventy pint, a lot of them have immediate run offs so you don't have to worry about the res. size. you can attach hose and run off somewhere else. in general, don't spend more than 200, if your room is that small, then you might only need a 45 one.
my bad, don't know what RH is... i know for mine i have a 70 pint danby dehu, rather draining by hand, i can attach hose for immediate run off, does that help?
No worries, RH means Relative Humidity. And yes, it does help to know about the hose drain off setup. Something I will look for. Thank you.
I went out and bought one today. Craiglist for my area was negative with any for sale. I started it up and my RH went from 68% down to 57% in an hour. I have it set for 35%, not sure if it will get that low but figured it was the best way to lower faster. They do put off some heat, that's for sure. What's the ideal RH level for flowering?
which dehumidifier did you get? where did you get it? i've been looking around walmart, target, kmart and havent had much luck.
I got the Frigidaire 25 pint w/ Energy Star rating. Found it at Lowe's, which was the cheapest for my area. I thought about going bigger, but I plan on attaching a hose for continuous run off today. I dropped my RH after 12 hrs from 68% down to 50% with lights on. Quite impressed. Try Home Depot, Lowe's, Sears, or any place that sells appliances. Good luck.
I got a kenmore 3 in 1 home comfort systems used for $100 but when I try to put it into "DRY" mode the light keeps flashing next to the %RH that I select instead of going solid green and the system never starts up. Also the red light next to "WATER FULL" flashes as well even though the res is empty. Can anybody help me?
Not exactly sure. I would suggest checking the float and see if that needs some love to stop the 'water full' message. My manual says to contact service repair upon not working. You said you bought it used, has it ever worked since buying it? If not, I would suggest to get your money back or ask them for help in solving the problem. Sorry if I don't have the right answer for you, it's the best I can do.
Ideal is 30%-50%, the lower the better to avoid mold issues, I haven't had mine plugged in since I replaced the hole it was with an A/C for warmer weather, I liked the D/H unit for the cold months for the low heat it puts out with that said I've been running in the 50% range and it does get into the high 60%-low 70% range for short periods of time with out one, so far I've had no mold issues, I thought I would leave the A/C unit in and turn it on if temp & R/H hit levels creating mold. After a few warm weeks last year I realized an A/C would be a better direction to put money taking into consideration the heat from the D/H, the A/C does D/H enough to make the difference & can keep it cool to, my box is only 80sq.ft. compared to your 1000sq.ft so your probably better off with a full romm D/H. If concerned about power consumption at all just keep it at 50%-60% tha should be fine.
After a few hours it had gone down to 50%. I'm not sure what the lowest was overnight, as I was asleep when the lights went off. I'll be able to check in about two hrs when the lights come back on. I will assess my situation when I know what the numbers were overnight. Power consumption isn't of major concern, not as much as the life of my babies are. Thanks for the time and advice. + rep.
