I recently bought a 20 x10 portable greenhouse to keep the rain and sprinklers from getting my outdoor plants wet. I have two fans set up but I live in the northeast portion of the US and it gets quite humid toward the end of the growing season. last season i lost my whole crop due to budrot from the humidity outside. I was wondering if putting a dehumidifier would in the greenhouse would help prevent mold. Would it effective or do you think the greenhouse isn’t air tight enough?

  4. What are your temps getting to at night. The humidity is because of the difference in temps I believe. I think a heater would help burn it off and fans would help circulate the drier air. You want some exchange of air in the greenhouse so air right shouldn’t be problem.

  5. Right now it’s gets to about 70 F at night with the outside humidity anywhere from 70-94% humidity.

  6. Blast those fans all night long. You can also frame in a end wall and install fan with thermostat.

  8. I also lost a lot of bud due to rot last year. Also in the NE. Built a greenhouse this spring hoping for a different result but I found a small amount of mold developing on a small bud this afternoon. I will be keeping an eye on this to see how you end up battling the humidity. Good luck.

  9. No mold seen in any of my girls yet. But I’m struggling to keep the humidity down in my greenhouse. I’ve put a portable dehumidifier in the greenhouse at night and shut all the flaps to try to keep the humidity down. Doing this I’ve had my humidity at night around 63-68% rh. In the morning i shut the dehumidifier off and open all the flaps. Hope you’ve haven’t had more mold issues.

  10. Hello all, this is my first post. I'm almost finished building a 4x8x7' mini greenhouse for my deck but I have no idea what I'm doing! I'm just winging it for sure so I thought I may need your help getting it right. I used about 50 PT 1x2x8's and wrapped 6 mil greenhouse plastic both inside the frame and outside as well. I thought the thin layer of air between the two wraps would create an insulation barrier for the colder MA nights coming up soon. In any event, I put a 340 CFM exhaust fan in one gable end ridge, vented outside and I spray painted 16, 5 gallon pails and filled them with water as a heat sink. That gives me the required 80 gallons for my 32 square feet GH. The theory here is that the black absorbs the light, heating up the water during the day which helps cool it down and releases that heat at night to help warm it up. I was thinking about a dehumidifier but I'm going to start with rock salt and buckets. I'm going to drill a bunch of holes in one bucket, fill it with rock salt and place that bucket inside another. I've used this method before in my wet cellar and it works well. An 8x12, 50% black shade cloth and that exhaust fan brought the temp down from a high of 119 degrees to a much more manageable 82. I hope they still get enough light? I'll prolly kill the plants I have going now before the season ends but I'm looking forward to participating in this community...thanks for having me, ralph
