Deformed Leaves?

  1. This is a Barney's Farm Seeds Crimea Blue plant that is 5 days old. The leaves are growing out at very odd angles. instead of jutting outward from the center, they point upward and sort of fold over each other. You have to look at the pix to see what I mean. Does anyone know what this is? Has anyone ever seen anything like this before. The plant seems otherwise healthy, as the leave are growing, just at the odd angle.

  2. Looks like some funky cabbage with those twisted leaves.

Some seedlings just grow funky to begin with...the genetics aren't pristine, obviously. The plant should grow out of it, so just give her some time and keep a close eye on her.

I'm not sure that environmental factors could play into this, especially if she continues to grow alright...what kind of soil is that though? What's the Ph at?

  3. The soil is Miracle Gro potting mix. It is NOT the moisture control formula. The pH is almost 8. I know that is high, but I've used this soil before with great results. I too think the plant will eventually start growing normally.

  4. MG is not recommended. The soil is packed with time-released nutrients, meaning they will be released throughout the grow, usually in higher amounts than the plant needs.

But, some people have had fine results with it...I garauntee, however, you will find better results with a better soil, such as Fox Farm. Just look around the board for pictures...there is a huge difference.

You'll want to get that Ph down to 6.5-7 before too long, the plant will be Much better off that way. Nutrients are absorbed best at that Ph.

Any issues you encounter in the future will most likely be caused by nutrient burn or a deficiency/toxicity thanks to the MG soil.

    Good luck!!

  5. Well here is the Crimea Blue at 18 days old. She did grow out of her deformity. Alongside in the green bucket is an 18 day old Aurora Indica.

  6. next time you need to put more soil in your buckets so the plant is out of the pot, otherwise the leaves will grow into the sides
