dechlorinator

  1. I need to flush my plants, and clearly need shitloads of water. I don't have enough buckets to let that much water stand, so would it be ok to use a dechlorinator - the sort that is used for fishtanks?

  2. the amount of chlorine in tap water isnt sufficent to do anything bad to ur plant. if it was, it would kill u.

and some ppl think that the chlorine helps sterilize the whole of the situation.

the problem with tap water isnt chlorine, its the pH of it. the higher the pH, the more solids will precipitate out and into ur soil. but letting water stand does nothing for the pH.

so dont worry bout letting the water stand. worry about the pH of ur water.

  3. That makes my life a lot easier, thankyou :)

  4. wait i changed my mind. u MUST dechlorinate each and every drop or its the death of ur plants! each drop much be in an open air dish for 48hrs with a cover over them to shield from the sun.

nah im just pulling ur chain :) dont worry bout it. be much more worried about the pH of ur water/soil/fert mixture.
by the way. H2O2, hydrogen peroxide will mitigate the effects of chlorinated water by adding O2 to react with stuff like free radical chlorine. as well as adding O2 to roots. if ur pH is fine, the only thing u might wanna add to ur water is H2O2. and do go nutz with that stuff either 1tbs/gal is on the hi side of the mixture one should consider. 1tsp/gal is maintiance mix.

  5. I once set up an automatic feed for a week, fed them tap water - had no problem. But I do let my tap water stand, given the choice.

  6. Seeing as I've just finished the flush, you scared the hell out of me Froggy :p I was having palpatations lol!

I've not heard of adding hrydogen peroxide, I'll have to look into it, thanks for the tip.

I'm glad that you chipped in too spanishfly, it makes me feel a bit more confident that I'm doing the right thing at last. I'll stand water for general watering, but for flushing it's just too much.
