Decarbing BHO Failed?

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by MattBee2k2, Mar 9, 2016.

  1. Hi,

I tried decarbing some bho in the oven using the method of wrapping it up in parchment paper and foil to keep it sealed and heating at 100 celcius for 10 mins and I let it cool in the oven. When it came to unwrapping it part of the foil was sticky and all the parchment paper was sticky and no bho was left in the paper.

Did I heat it at too high a temp or was there a gap in the wrapping and most of the wax escaped due to vapour?

Any ideas are appreciated, going to try making edibles at the weekend and don't want this happening with a whole .5g.

    Thanks.

MattBee2k2, that was the right temperature. I think where you went wrong with the method- the parchment paper and foil package allowed the concentrate to escape. PsychedelicSam decarbs in a beaker in an oil bath at the same temp (approx.) until bubbles stop forming. Perhaps if you had put it into a Pyrex bowl or something so it couldn't just puddle and disappear. I think it was all still there, just had thinned and clung to the foil and parchment making it hard to collect. You can also melt your bho into coconut oil and then decarb the oil in the oven until bubbles stop forming. If It was me using 0.5 grams I would use the oil bath. PSam has an index in Another Tincture Thread detailing the decarb of concentrate in an oil bath. Good luck with your edibles, mate.

  3. Thanks for the response man, i'll be sure to check out that method, it always seemed better. I realised my error and it was not sealed properly. I tried just placing it at the bottom of a pyrex bowl and covered that in foil and all was good, then I added oil and reheated.
