Decarbed LONG & HOT

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by Mommamia71, Dec 18, 2023.

  1. Its been a long time since I made oil and instead of looking it up I winged it on the temp and time to decarb. Big Mistake. I did 2 oz at 350 F for 30 min. Is it junk now? Is there anything I can use it for?

  2. You're just gonna have to try it, mate. It may well be junk, but then it may not. What were you gonna make with two ounces?

  3. I make infused coconut oil for edibles of all sorts. I make it in larger batches and freeze in 1/3 cups so I can pop one out whenever I need.

not to be a nudge or anything but bud is bud & kief is kief, you can't turn 1 into the other. the coffee (grinder) just grinds very finely & fast. Decarbing is a simple reaction that takes heat & time. there is no magic, it's following a recipe just like cooking food. How long before U feel the effects with oil. I'm more a fan of alcohol tincture cuz of it's faster effects..

  12. yes the oil can be dangerous because it takes at least an hour to feel and people get impatient and eat more then regret the bad trip i always have a neighbor eat one first then check on them in 2 hours and just look at their eyes lol

  15. Sweet, I've not used canola oil yet but plan on some coconut oil soon. I often make little batches of butter to throw into recipes. 1-2g simmered in real butter till it turns brown. Strain and squeeze off the waste. Sometimes when I want a quick buzz I throw a spoonful down the hatch and chase it with chocolate and coffee. Yuck..I know but the buzz hits faster and is oh so trippy at times.
If you find chop the weed or just crumble it all works the same.

It's cool. If you use a "trim bin" type product the kief falls thru the screen while trimming & collects separately. That kief can get over everything & make a real sticky mess. After you decarb it (the bud) crumbles up very fine with gloved hands. Ever try making tinc/edibles with kief? There's a whole lot less straining & chlorophyll.

  17. A thermometer is handy when double boiling, I go low & slow, with almost everything nowadays. :(

  18. Not really.
Decarboxylation in organic chemistry is an example of a 1,2 elimination reaction. The mechanism of reaction is a concerted one with a cyclic transition state. It begins with the breaking of a carbon-to-carbon single bond (C-C). At the same time, carbon-to-oxygen double bonds (C=O) and a hydroxyl group (OH) are formed.

  19. Coconut oil is the only oil that allows for a much faster onset time, due to the fact that the MCT's (medium chain triglycerides) found in coconut oil are sent directly to the liver (along with anything they are carrying). So onset with infused coconut oil hits in 30-45 min typically, instead of 1-2 hours.

  20. Yeah, if ya can stomach a spoonful of green butter I'd does the same versus eating a baked good. But yeah I can see why coconut oil is better. Usually I drink a nice half glass of whole milke with a edible for the fat content.

Man once I get some leaf, trim, and larf piled up I'll be doing coconut and butter. So does the coconut taste better? The butter will check your gag reflex..lol.
