phire, youre not quite there. a breakdown actually means the song breaking down into just one or two instruments or more commonly referred to as a bridge.. where some bands break the song down into its fundamental melodies and simplify it, hardcore just uses the term completely incorrectly. its has nothing to do with monophonic, polyphonic or homophonic melodies. or mono, poly or homorhythmic grooves.

you all get an F in music theory and history! haha.

  3. hahaha, noice! the only difference between all other types of music and HxC and everything associated with it is, one side of the spectrum puts variety into their bridges where the other uses the same melody for each and every breakdown they use in every other song, and this goes for every band in the genre. :D :p

I wasn't defining a breakdown, I was providing the differences between those found in death metal and those found in hardcore. Also, how is the example from "The Faceless" not an example of polyphony?

And FYI, I take Music Theory and Literature and I have an A in both haha.

edit: anyone heard of FATE? http://www.myspace.com/fate

I love me some old school death metal. I can't really get into the new "deathcore" death metal bands coming out nowadays. Saw Atheist a while back and toked with them in their tour bus. That was probably the last DM show i went to. I'm more of a black metal guy. The newest DM band I can get into is probably Fleshgod Apocalypse, but only in stints.

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kov3F0vqlCI"]YouTube - Belphegor - Blutsabbath[/ame]

  6. If what you say is true, you are one awesome person.

  7. Hell yeah when veil of maya came to orlando i smoked with there drummer very chill dude.

  8. Ah! Thank you. You said exactly what I was going to.
    Haha
It really irritates me when people think that all breakdowns are just chugga chuggas.
Yeah, it's the most popular way people recognize them lately, but, so much more.

    Vader anyone? :D

  9. Have you listened to Niles new CD yet?

  10. Definetly more of a Heavy metal fan but..Behemoth, Arch Enemy, Cannibal Corpse, and Devourment are a few bands I like.

You guys should check out Dirge Within, just came out with their debut album and are pretty sick.

  11. i know they get alot shit, but i like six feet under, ever sinnce i heard warpath i was meat hooked.newer stuff though i would say behemoth even though they pretty much are in a catergory of their own.

  12. A bit doomy, but Disembowelment anyone? :)

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtOjXBNuMNE]YouTube - Disembowelment - Excoriate[/ame]
    (1:05 for an excellent breakdown)

  13. Anybody else listen to Cannabis Corpse? Combining two of my favorite things, herb and metal. I think they're far superior than Cannibal Corpse.

(how do you embed a youtube video) <--noob I know.

  14. Easy, just paste the link, its automatic. :)

  15. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tptChkpxMoQ]YouTube - Parkway Drive - Boneyards[/ame]
    skip to 2:40 :metal:

  16. Dude. I love Six Feet Under. Definitely feel that Chris Barnes does a lot better than SFU than CC. I don't know. His vocals just give a better vibe with SFU than CC.

I love Cannabis Corpse too. Haha
Where I got my name from.
I'm excited as fuck for their new CD.

  17. This band is the most epic metal band I've ever heard. If you don't know about em, go get learned haha.
    - Rose Funeral -
"Eternal Regret" "Under a Godless Sky" "State of Decay"

Suicide Silence - "A Dead Current" "Suffer" "Misleading Milligrams"
As Blood Runs Black - "My Fears Have Become Phobias" "In Dying Days" "Strife"
    A Different Breed of Killer,
    Whitechapel,
    The Black Dahlia Murder,
    Molotov Solution.

Just some of my favorites. I love (Death) Metal, sober, stoned, drunk, any time. A lot of my stoner friends don't like it which is where I developed a taste for hip hop n rap, but whenever I'm not with those friends, best believe the shit is roaring from my speakers.

  18. Not necessarily death metal, but we'll let it slide :)
