I like every sort of metal. Call these whatever you what, death metal or not, they're awesome: Cannibal Corpse Caliga Suicide Silence Thine Eyes Bleed It Dies Today Dying Fetus Some All That Remains songs are death metal Annotations of An Autopsy Arch Enemy The Black Dahlia Murder Bleeding Through Bride of the Monster MALAKAI Nile <3 Rose Funeral Shadows Fall Whitechapel
Why can't people distinguish between death metal and deathcore? Deathcore != Death metal. And metalcore? That's really a stretch to consider that death metal. A lot of melodic death metal (i.e. Gothenburg type stuff) bears very little similarity to death metal, the title is really a misnomer. Metal has so many different sub-genres that it's hard to distinguish them sometimes. "Death Metal" isn't the only metal that is based around death and dying.
i like a handful of their songs but thats about it. theyre too tech death for me. the forsaken anyone?
Scar Symmetry is an amazing band. Their Holographic Universe album is, in my opinion, one of the best metal albums to be released in at least the past decade. I have their new one, Dark Matter Dimensions, and I still owe it some more listening time, but so far I've gotta say I'm a bit disappointed. The loss of Christian Alvestam has affected them more than I hoped it would. They replaced him with two vocalists, one who does the growling and another who does the clean singing, and while the new growler is very good (check out his other band Facebreaker for some awesome old school Swedish style death metal), the clean singer leaves much to be desired. It's too bad Christian and the rest of the guys couldn't work it out. They had something amazing going.
I hope you're not suggesting that death metal's distinguishing factor is the lyrics. Besides, it's actually quite easy to distinguish between different metal sub-genres. The only difficulty is classifying borderline bands.
It is easy to identify the characteristics of particular subgenres when listening to bands. The trouble is that most good metal bands use aspects of several of them, and there are many borderline bands. Thus all the arguing among metal fans about who is what. I don't like to get into all that, I just like to talk about who's good and not.
I've been telling everyone who will listen about Gorod. Process of a New Decline is without a doubt the best metal album of 2009 so far, and I sincerely doubt anything will top it.
I love metal. Listening to Gorguts ATM. Erosion of Sanity and Obscura are simply amazing albums. But my favorite metal band has got to be fucking Acid Bath. SLUDGE FTW! Eyehategod, Crowbar, Soilent Green, etc. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjBwxXmNY0Q"]YouTube - Acid Bath-The Blue[/ame] Yeah Death and Doom metal are probably my 2 favorite metal sub genres. Oh yeah, if you guys haven't listened to Electric Wizard or Sleep...you MUST do so posthaste: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sO7VP34n2Ps"]YouTube - Electric Wizard - Funeralopolis[/ame] [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zj9IAvv32wE"]YouTube - Sleep - Dragonaut[/ame] Essential stoner bands. Someone mentioned Decrepit Birth earlier...I saw them play a show with BDM and a few other bands a couple years back and it was excellent. I guess noone here likes Black Metal tho..
