Ok so i bought a 120mm exhaust fan from PC World earlier (£8), I stripped the ends and connected it a 12v DC adapter. The first time i tried it, it worked fine. However, after preparing the case for the fan, i connected the wires again and it's not working at all. I was under the impression it wouldn't blow if i connected the wires wrong? I thought trial and error was fine as it only 12v. Is there anyway to repair it or shall i just suck up the £8 loss and get a new one. Also, how often do fans blow when using a 12v DC adapter? I was hoping this would last ages. I'm so annoyed, lol. Cheers guys.
Well It should say on the front/back of the fan : Input : Output : & So on You want to check what It says for Input On your fan - It could be your fuse has blown on your 12v DC/AC adapter I use a 12v Adapter that cuts the volt down to 9v ( If you chop that black block off the end of your wire , you will be running 12v ) Let us know what the Input & Out put Is please ...
It definitely isn't the fuse on the adapter as it is still working on the other two 80mm fans. On a sticker on the back of the fan it says, 12v, 0. 15A
Haha. Dude, you said fan. But i'm gonna assume you mean the adapter. Anyway it's: Input: 230V/240V~50Hz Output: 12v DC 1000mA
JEEESUS man , did you not read my first post / Or you just proper mash'd out ya face hahaha Look At this post man ... & tell me, that you haven't fuck'd up here =-] orr man this made me laugh ??? ; ] No worries man whats the Input & output of your FAN lol It should say on the front/back of It .. .. ..
I believe I have blown the fan. I have no idea why though. I've just tried it with a seperate 5v 1A DC charger from an old Palm handheld. How would I have done it? Just for future reference. I just can't figure it out because I only tried it once. I let it spin for about 3 seconds and then separated the wires. The fan came with a third wire, I think this must be a speed controller. It's yellow. Please, someone help me solve this mystery. It's driving me insane.
I dunno , I tried to help you but you just assumed I meant the Input & output of your charger - Then never answered the question I asked - people can't help you If you don't have the right Info about The problem ... What Is the Input & output for your fan ? ( It should say on the front/back ) I have said more than once Let Us know & I'll try help man ...
Have you just Edited that post & quoted It because not once did you tell me what It said on your fan yesterday lol ... I dunno whats wrong with your fan , Not without knowing all the Info - Your problem can not be diagnosed by anyone other than your self , just try It out a few way wire It to the yellow 1 It just might be a lower speed Or higher ; ] Good luck
Must just be a dud fan. 12v can not break your fan if wired backwards... I've done it to dozens of fans and with higher voltage too. My guess would be a loose wire... -Loki
