day 42 is it time to flip?

  1. Well I'm going on day 42 and not really sure when a good time to flip to flowering. Light schedule is currently 20-4. Just going off instinct I was thinking maybe I'm at least 2 weeks away.
From the top its about 10 inches tall.
    What do you guys think?

  2. what strain? and how big of a plant do you want in the end? its still gonna grow once you switch to flower. and just out of curiousity why are you doing 20-4? ive always heard 16-8 and 12-12, unless its an autoflower

    12-12 is for flowering????

  4. looks healthy. i usually flip them at around 10 inches. you're gonna get the stretch in flower, so take that into account. what wattage light you using? unless you're using 1000 watts, i'd say you waited too long. with less than 1000 watts, you won't get a lot of light very far down into the canopy. so you end up with too much plant for your light. unless you like a lot of little buds. keeping the lower buds to a minimum allows the plant to concentrate it's energy on the big colas. that's why i trim most of that lower growth off during veg and early flower...

  5. ya, 12/12 for flower, and a few for veg. i do 16/8, but you can do 18/6, 24/0 etc. for veg...

  6. I thought it was just a preference on the light cycle hours for veg. Maybe I can go 18-6 the next two weeks then go 12-12.
It was a bag seed from Strawberry Kush, and I was hoping to keep it under 3ft.

I'm using a small linen closet for growing and using 220w cfl 6500k. I was thinking of adding a single strip of t5 lighting for the side. When you prune the under growth do you trim from the stem or higher?

  8. I would go 5 days of 18/6 and add more light for flower. An HPS isn't too expensive and is a real good investment.

  9. You should switch to 12/12 ASAP IMO. Dissec is right you should look into a HPS light, however, if that's not an option then add more cfl's and switch to 12/12. If this is a bag seed you are going to have to pay more attention than usual to the sex of the plant.

  10. i cut side growth even with the main stalk. i don't have any growth for the first 8 inches or so. really helps with air flow.

I was going to use 3 100w cfl 2700k for flowering. If going with an hps system do I also need a ballast?.
In regards to the under growth is it easier to snap off or use shears?

  12. Thanks for all the help, this my first grow and was testing the waters on how difficult it would be. So far its not bad and I enjoy growing for myself.

  13. If its a bag seed you need to check her very single day to make sure no male flowers pop up. She looks great though. If you flip at a foot the plant will be two to three feet when complete. As soon as the long dark period comes they stretch for the light and grow an assload. In just a few days. So account for your height of your room. And remember with artificial lights you've got about three feet of light penetration. I keep mine to three or four feet.

Yes, they're usually included though. My 600w was under $190 and well worth it, with cfls an oz a plant was good, now I'm looking for about 4 oz's a plant, with more plants. Not to mention the higher quality product.

  15. Is this 18 light and 6 dark or the other way around?
And what sort of lighting will one use for seedlings?

Yes its 18 light then 6 dark. I used a 100w cfl for my seedling with no prob. But that was just one plant. Id imagine a t5 setup for seedlings would be sufficient.

  17. I use cfl's for seedlings... 400 watt hps for vegging and hps for flowering. This is my first grow I have 1 blue widow I grew from seed and 1 purple kush from clone. I should be harvesting in a couple of weeks and I hope to get like 6 oz's
