Hey everyone. This is pretty random, now that i got that out there I was looking for experience with dalmatians. I am seriously considering picking one up, but I have read about unstable temperament, and a few other issues. Basically I am just looking for anyone that has owned one, owns one, family member or friend had one etc. Also if you want to drop your 2cents on the matter im all ears. Looking for a dog to go running with at the beach, disc golf, but I'm not tryoing to have some emo-suicidal dog that I have to hide the razor blades from. Thanks, any advice is greatly appreciated.
Mine is very insecure, but it's a mutt and I didn't get to raise it myself. I blame my mom and grandparents for raising it wrong and not the dog. I'd look into the breeder.
i was bit by one when i was like 2 i had to have like 15 stitches between my eyebrow and near my nose...be careful with them i suggest doing a lot of research if you haven't already...dogs are a big fucking responsibility and time consuming...good luck
^^As long as you raise them right, you shouldn't have to worry about that. (the biting part. yes dogs do take a lot of time and responsibility, it's worth it though) My Brother's friend has a dalmation. It's a pretty good dog. He's not all that obediant, but I blame that on his owner. One thing, if he sees a strange dog or person, he'll do whatever he can to go inspect them. Which can be a good thing, he's a very good watch dog. Not a guard dog, but he'll let you know when someone's coming. He's also quite big, I've read of heart problems in larger dogs. You might want to look into that.
Beagles can be a lot of work. They're little trouble makers. They're great dogs, they each have their own personality and stuff...more so than in other breeds, or at least from my observations. They also tend to have weight issues. As far as dalmations know I don't really know anybody that has any or anything. Bradley Nowell had one, and he loved that dog so much. Just listen to a couple Sublime songs and you'll end up hearing some sort of reference to Lou Dog. There used to be a lady in my neighborhood that had two dalmations, the lady was a bitch. She would walk her dogs every day past my house, I remember one time one of my neighbors who was like 3 or 4 at the time asked if she could pet the dogs and this lady just straight up told her no and kept walking. There's lots of reasons you could have for denying someone to pet your dog, but atleast be nice about it..."no sorry, they sometimes bite and I don't want you getting hurt" or something like that would have been much nicer.
DO NOT get a dalmation. they are one of the dumbest breeds out there. unless you have the time to walk/exercise them at least thrice a day, do not buy one. they are dense as fuck, very skittish, and housetraining isnt easy. (this is according to the breed as a whole, please dont take offense if you own one and yours is the exception to the rule, congrats)
I have a collie, don't know how common they are out there in the US but over here in Scotland they're one of the most common breeds. Great dogs, intelligent, obediant, playful, but they have a problem with arthritis, my dog is 13 but hes really old now. I've always wanted a dalmation, tho, but I don't like the idea of buying a dog. We got our dog at a shelter, but it made it kind of hard at the start because he had been beaten. Totally went off on a tangent there..
Yea, I know some people who took in a beaten dog. They said it was difficult, but very rewarding. This dog hides from strangers at their house, especially doesn't like men...and gets scared when she sees a man wearing a hat, the way the guy that beat her did. I cant believe anybody could do that to a dog. I could NEVER intentionally hurt my dog. If people want something to hit they should just go out and buy a punching bag...easier to maintain than a dog and you can hit it all you want without anything bad happening to it.
